Egypt shark attack

Shocking to see the video and I imagine infinitely more shocking seeing it first hand. Not a pleasant way to go no matter his nationality or ‘opinions’

The story did lead me a fascinating bit of info, great whites, while having greater numbers of human fatalities to their name tend not to devour a human as they have ‘taste preference’ so they tend to just bite a human victim then leave them. Whereas a tiger shark, having a much less fussy palate will intentionally eat a human!! - as this poor sod found out to his cost!

Tiger sharks are the worst for attacks on humans.

You must have read about the USS Indianapolis?

Oh yea. Horrifying some of the stories from survivors of it. Quint’s ‘story’ in Jaws about it still gives me the shivers!!

Always knew tiger sharks were known as man eaters just didn’t realise it was in the literal sense!!

After seeing Jaws 2 at a very young age (<8yo IIRC) I've been left with a life long fascination with Sharks and Rays, virtually to the point of doing a university course studying them until reality slapped me back with "you're skint and joining the military in a few weeks, dummy!".

As such I've read many, many International Shark Attack File (ISAF) reports as run by a Florida University but I think this is one of the very few videos I'm aware of with victim audio and, as such, it's not something I want to watch or hear.

As an aside, whilst I know the Great White is currently thought to be the shark with the most attacks to its name, I think in reality it's probably the Bull Shark (also known as Zambezi Shark) as these are able to swim in Fresh Water as well as in the Sea and they are known for being hyper aggressive, meaning I think far more "unaccounted" for people around South African rivers are due to these Sharks rather than crocs/drowning etc.

The Oceanic Whitetip is also up there with the worst

There was an Australian guy a couple of years back eaten by a great white. Video pretty similar to this but half his body just floating along whilst the shark comes back to get the rest.

The great white seemed a lot better way to go as he would literally chop you in half in a split second. That Tiger shark one would have been horrible as you would have time to think your time is up.

He tried to swim away but I thought you meant to fight them head on and punch them on the nose or something? Saying that he tossed him up like a rag doll. These things are designed to eat fish several hundred kilos in weight.

I know my place on the earth and will never go deep into the sea. Much prefer a pool myself when on holiday.

You’d think someone who’d been through that would stay as far away from sharks as possible!

Yeah, my understanding is that whilst great whites might be some of the biggest and baddest sharks they don't tend to go for humans unless they are confused, mistaken identity basically. Or have a nibble out of curiosity.

Things like tiger sharks and bull sharks, whilst smaller can be far more dangerous as they will actually see you as lunch.

According to the ISAF - but its a very incomplete list due to positively ID'ing a shark being very, very difficult without an expert witnesses or imagery of the shark which is only a fairly recent occurance. For things like the USS Indianapolis attack etc there was very little positively ID'd sharks mentioned, more of a general "a bunch of sharks ate people" instead rather than the few survivors being able to ID specific species.

IIRC, Bull sharks are particularly dangerous because they can live in brackish water and they travel up rivers
A 1.000 miles up stream is scarey
