Hi,

Decided to perform an upgrade of my current rig and have chosen this monitor. Mine arrives Tuesday, will post further info here.

Anyone else got one and could share settings I would be grateful.

Thanks.

The badboy from Japan arrived just in time for the weekend:

I need to calibrate them both but its going head-to-head this afternoon with the new Dell 144 G-sync.

I only have an Iphone 6 to hand. Pics below.

No dead pixels or major back-light bleed from either.

Will need to get pics of that situation once its dark, need to dash will post up some thoughts tomorrow.

Eizo has finer detail and obviously much better colours, you might be able to make it out from the pics which is which, you may not. I can see the difference in the photos on the Eizo ;)

Both have a really nice AR coating.

Dell is about 85% of the display from the Eizo for 50% of the price. Build quality on the Eizo is tank-like, the Dell is great apart from the stand mechanism letting it down in terms of feel. Once adjusted though you do not touch it again so not a major problem.

Eizo has blur reduction all the way up to 144hz. I tried G-sync on the Dell however as I play HOS my frame rate is between 150-300fps as i play in low detail. I need to try more games to gain a better appreciation of the feature.

Trying not to make this sound like a weeing on cornflakes question but assuming you paid the kind of money i'm seeing the Eizo costs from a quick Google search, isn't it just a massive rip-off compared to say, the XF270HU/MG279Q which appear to use the same panel?

I mean, do Eizo offer anything substantial over those to justify the price?

I considered the acer and Asus equivalents, one look in the horror shows that are the owners threads for these monitors was enough for me to avoid.

with Eizo you pay a premium for minimal back light bleed, no dead pixels (it's not guaranteed tho) 5 year warranty, Japanese build quality and with this panel I also get the 144hz blur reduction.

Is the effective range really 56-144hz for FreeSync?

That's pretty limited, darn shame they can't get the low end to 40 or less. It's really throwing a wrench in my plans to get a nice Freesync monitor. :(

Low frame rates are low frame rates regardless. You really don't want to be getting under 56fps or anywhere near that on a 144Hz monitor, it feels and looks extremely sluggish. And besides, now that AMD has LFC the frame rates below the hardware floor (56Hz/56fps) are suitably compensated for to remove stuttering and tearing. It's very much a non-issue really.

I would just like to add, though, that there are no guarantees whatsoever when it comes to backlight bleed. I've received feedback on this model from multiple users who are less than impressed with the backlight uniformity, specifically the amount of bleed. It really isn't all that different to the significantly cheaper models in that regard. Better odds of a good unit, possibly, but certainly no guarantees.

56hz minimum range is indeed pathetic, given the price of the monitor.

I play a lot of WoW again and even with the current system in my signature it can easily drop down into the low 40's.

Anything over 35 is currently fine on my G-Sync display, so a range as low as 56 does look rather bad to me. Regardless of the rest.

Also what is LFC, and how does that remove the issue of having a narrow freesync range?

https://www.amd.com/Documents/freesync-lfc.pdf. It's something I've tested out on the AOC C3583FQ and it works exactly as intended. It means that the hardware limitation of 56Hz is very much a non-issue given that LFC can compensate for this very effectively anyway.

Doing a few hours with the Eizo and I noticed I was getting some eye strain, I think due to the anti-blur strobing. I have turned this off and my brain is now better.

colours and detail are awesome.

I think I am in love with this monitor. I am switching back to the Dell from tonight in order to have some screen time with that panel also, I will switch back to the Eizo again from this Saturday.
