EMA to stop?

Yes actually, well sometimes when I remember to sort it.

Just don't think your comment is accurate, at all.

Might have been a present or earned doing one off work? For example I often do weekend jobs decorating or I go fishing (My brother has a license/boat etc.) to make some extra money. Just because someone doesn't have a job and gets EMA doesn't mean they don't work at all.

Getting a job when your at school 30 hours a week isnt really an option, it's even been shown that grades usually suffer because of it.

Good thing that ema is stopping though, people who have parents that are on the dole, self employed or divorced get tons of money, while the people who work hard and deserve it don't get anything because their parents earn just over the combined £30k bracket.

Are you saying that people whos parents are one or more of those three cannot have kids who work hard in school? Thats outrageous.

My parents are none of those things and they don't get tons of money, but hey let the people who could do with it suffer it stops other people abusing it. I guess you don't get EMA?

I don't get ema because my parents are just over the bracket, last week I had to spend £40 to buy revision books while people with ema just spend it on luxury items like cds, dvds, mp3 players, mobiles etc.

Is there actually a source for this information about the ema stopping is it just a rumour?

Does it matter?! Everyone loves a good moan about it :p

The EMA is dumb. If kids need support to get through school/college, then there's a million better ways than to hand out free money. Most have been posted here. It's just absurd.

Seriously, people who have a rig like that shouldn't be getting free money.
What the hell? If he was working one off then he should keep the money for college and not ***** it on an awesome rig.

The EMA system is a joke. But then again, I see most benefits that way.

Hay guyz I can't be bothered working so the government will fund me to go out drinking/buy an expensive guitar/buy a car...
(All examples of people I know personally, so it's not like I have no basis to complain)

I never said that, but every pupil I know in that situation is better off than me. So they don't need it anyway, whereas there are lots of people who don't get ema and need it.

No dude!
Because our parents actually do well at life, that means they give us money too!
God, don't you know anything...

It was sarcastic.
I was agreeing with you.
The government seem to assume that because my rents earn over a certain amount, then a percentage of that must go to me.
This isn't the case, and so EMA kids end up better off.

That's all :p

So that means they don't employ under 18's?

Most shop aren't employing at the moment because they've hired their christmas temp staff already.

No, ok I'll say it nice and slowly.

If they do hire under 18s they often aren't looking for work, at any time of the year.

A lot don't hire under 18s.

A lot conflicts with my college work and/or travelling.

Anyway, I just had a look at some job sites etc and the ones I can do are either the 'test products every now and again' sort of thing or being a carny! :D The rest get in the way of college.

I have actually signed up for one of the product testing things, occasionally they will call you up to test a product and give your opinion of it and you get £20. But how often that will happen and whether I'll be able to go at the time is another issue.

So those people didn't have to buy revision books either? Seems strange that.

Yeah but they get loads of ema money so it's no problem for them and they still have tons of money to spend on luxury items.

Going by what happens at my school

"My parents are divorced, but my dad earns loads of money because he lives by himself, my mum is on the dole but gets loads of benefits and both my parents feel sorry for me so I get tons of money for christmas and birthdays, last christmas I got a £900 computer (which I confirmed) as well as £5 a week pocket money."

"My dad is self employed and earns loads of money but he doesn't declare his income and so I get £30 a week ema because my mum gets less than £30k"

I hated EMA becuase in order to get enough money to blow on expensive computer hardware and cars, I spent all weekend, every weekend whilst I was at college, at work, to earn money.

Yet half of my college course brought home pretty similar amounts of money to me simply for attending the exact same course I did!

The whole parental income thing is ridiculous. Do they actually think that if parents earn more than £x a year they'll hand out cash to their kids to spend on what they like?

I wish!

Plus, all this stuff about revision books etc etc is just garbage, you don't even need them.
