Emergency test.. today!

I think the most scary thing is that they can take control of your phone and broadcast whatever sound they like through it.

And in, exactly, what instances might this be used anyway? A case of national emergency such as what?

Works in the US. When I lived there it would go off a few times a year for the following reasons:
  • Approaching hurricane
  • Tornadoes spotted
  • Golfball sized hail
  • Adbucted children twice

Seemed perfectly reasonable to me

Just checked to see if mine were switched on in Android. The 'Emergency' settings are under Settings > 'Apps & notifications' > Advanced > 'Emergency alerts' at least on Android 9 they are.

Got a lot of these for tornado warnings when we lived in the US, they are very alarming if you're not expecting it.

EDIT: Just seen you already said this :p

Yea we got an abducted child too, driven across three states apparently, was told to look out for the license plate.

Now that I think about it we also got an active shooter alert on the Uni campus, which actually turned out to be a group of students popping balloons and subsequently a few people screaming, being America loud bangs followed by screaming usually means shooter.

It could be useful for further terrorist attacks if the message goes out to a particular area, may buy people some additional time.

For some reason my earthquake & tsunami one was turned off, since I live near the coast I thought may as well have that on as well. Bring it on, I know you're coming now.

When I lived in the US, when we used to get severe weather warnings the tv would produce a weird sound.

I'm not sure if it only happened in Ohio state. But when it happened I was like, wth!

This was similar to what I saw;

I'm on Andriod 9,1 and I do not have Apps & notifications in settings, just notifications on it's own. If I scroll I don't find Emergency Alerts, but if I search for them while on the Notifications screen, they appear.

Not hidden under the 'Advanced' section that you have to click to make it expand?
