Emergency test.. today!

When I lived in the US, when we used to get severe weather warnings the tv would produce a weird sound.

I'm not sure if it only happened in Ohio state. But when it happened I was like, wth!

This was similar to what I saw;

I only ever got them by phone in Michigan, but then again I didn't ever watch TV that much other than Netflix while in the US.

Phone handsets and devices
Make sure your device has all the latest software updates.

Emergency alerts work on:

  • iPhones running iOS 14.5 or later
  • Android phones and tablets running Android 11 or later
If you have an earlier version of Android, you may still be able to receive alerts. To check, search your settings for ‘emergency alerts’.

Mobile phone networks
Emergency alerts work on all 4G and 5G phone networks in the UK.

Phones and tablets connected to a 2G or 3G network will not receive emergency alerts.

Emergency alerts do not cause, and are not affected by, busy phone networks.

will still come through

It's a good thing really. Except that error they did in hawaii!

can you imagine, you're in the lift with your hot colleague, and wife. End of the world message.

Karen I'm leaving you.. Debbie. I've watched you from afar and I just have to tell you...

Apologies.. This message was sent in error!

:D

Apparently it was 38 minutes till it was confirmed as an error. Plenty of time.

You're right, you can actually turn them off.

Don't have amber alerts on my samsung. I guess child abductions arent an issue... On the other hand, I do have an option to speak the alerts so they can make doubly sure I know my impeding doom is on it's way without having to unlock my phone to read the message. Which is nice .

Emergency messages to your phone are fairly commonplace here because, you know, it's pretty handy to be notified if a volcano, tsunami, or earthquake is up to shenanigans.
