Emigrating to New Zealand

That's a good wage for two people. Do you have any kids to support? Do you have a house to sell in the UK? How much cash can you bring over? etc. I've been looking at NZ and Aus for many months so I know all the typical questions to ask about means and needs

Diving would be good, you're never more than 20 miles from a beach more or less and as you can imagine the whole sailing and diving scene in NZ is massive. However, do expect there to be many diving instructors :)

No kids or house to sell, so taking money that we have saved and from selling everything (whole life is for sale :p )

I have quickly checked into diving in NZ and there are plenty of dive centres, but it isn't something I can "dive" into straight away though, as I would have to do the courses etc, at the moment it is a hobby, but it is something I will definately look into after being there a while. Fortunately i have a strong IT background, and Auckland is the perfect place in NZ to work in IT, especially with the IT drain to Oz...

Oh, and I have more chance of owning and running a V8 over there :D

I'm in IT also, but probably going to check out Australia first. I was originally keen on NZ but I feel I need to find a place with more IT jobs to get a better footing.

Holden V8 :D

Friendly people lol most kiwii's I have met here have been the craziest little violent nutjobs ever, and they all have massive families (12 siblings plus) involved in crime from the four or five I know...

:p

My cousin married a Maori, yep they have huggggeee familys. But some of the nicest people you'll meet. Even though they are all built like tanks.

* Auckland/Wellington less people than London however just as stupidly busy

You're not seriously comparing Wellington to London for "busy-ness"? I live and work in central London. I was in Wellington for a few days in December, and i though it was a nice quiet seaside town so pleasant in comparison. I could imagine though that the pace might be too slow for me.

NZ is definitely something i may consider in the next few years though.

Auckland was busy yeah but not on the level of London. I'd say it was as busy as a large town gets really! But it's not busy in the London sense of pace either. everyone seemed quite docile. It was certainly relaxing but when I came back to England I was on edge a lot simple because of how fast everything is!

For the EOI, about a day :D

We just happened to apply for it the day before the acceptance pool, doesn't mean we are in for sure, but we should get the ITA stuff within a month.
:)

From the people we have spoken to, the ITA is a drawn out process but essentially as long as your EOI was all true and you don't have any medical issues then it *should* be a formality :)

How many points did you have by the way?

I've also been looking at emigrating to NZ. Is that £150k pounds or NZD?

If NZD you'll be very happy with that. If pounds then you'll be extrememly well off.

That's £150k here, realistically we won't earn anywhere near that when we move over but we're only 27 and will have a fair amount saved up so it won't be a problem hopefully.

I reckon looking at wages that I could earn in Auckland, me & the missus will get around $150kNZD possibly more. If I can start my own business the sky is the limit.. but it isn't all about the money.

Over there I can follow a dream, and that is to become a Diving instructor, and over here I couldn't afford to do it, but over there after a while, I reckon I can :)

So over here, 45 hours a week, knackered all the time with miserable weather and taxed to the hilt compared to nice weather, warm sea's and I can become a paid beach bum and dive occaisonally... hmmm not sure what I would go for to be honest :p

Replace diving with paragliding and horseriding and that is our plan too once I get bored of IT Security (shouldn't take long eh?!)

170 points, all my wifes :p :( I have no job, or degree's so no points for Baz :(

I meant busy as in traffic, from 4am to 7/8pm the state highway 1 doesnt really rest and half the time its like the m25 - a car park

Also there is a big difference in a country for visiting and then living

You lucky thing. I would love to emigrate. But probably prefer Canada or outback America.

Canada - I'd love to go there. I haven't been, but something tells me I want to move there. Both me and my girlfriend want to move out of the UK, even if it's just for a year or so. As soon as we have stable jobs & some holiday money I think Canada is our #1 destination

Yes i do realise that, but i can't imagine traffic and crowds in London EVER being as nice as what i experienced over there. We drove from Wellington to Lower Hutt during the evening rush hour and it was lovely. I'm not calling you a liar, but i definitely didn't see it in the short time i was there.

We got accepted!! :)

This is only the first step but the rest is just more paperwork to confirm everything we said is true and that we don't have some murky criminal past (we also have to pay some more money). So fingers crossed that this time in 12 months we'll be there!
