Is the Mercedes too light? Is their concept to be super sleek, slippery, light and agile? I wonder if the Ferrari and Bull are just big, heavy beasts but the added stability aids traction and predictability on the edge allowing the drivers to push.

Someone posted pictures of the ferrari floor on twitter, from the crash today, it looked different to what I expected anyhow.
I think merc need a bit of a management shake up, they've become complacent.

I think they were trying to be too clever with their size-zero sidepods — they thought they had some killer interpretation of the rules that would give them an advantage and missed the wood for the trees.

Another theory is they’ve haemorrhaged staff to other teams and now don’t have the talent to perform at the top level.

Or, if you’re superstitious, it could be that they chose to call the car the W13. :D

I think the skinny packaging has taken away downforce they desperately need. The Ferrari is probably the fattest car on the grid and they're as happy as they could be.

Doesn't look like these concepts can handle the wet though, bit of a poor show. Imagine a race distance of it.

The problem with the Mercedes seems to be the gearbox stopping them from arranging the rear suspension in the optimal way to solve porpoising, the Williams and the AM using the same gearbox (but not McLaren who roll their own) having the same problem.

Today though, the Merc looked better as the track dried and they were unlucky with the timing of the red flag, both looked quick enough to get through to Q3 without that, although I think they'd have been in the lower part of that running anyway. They may fair better tomorrow and Sunday if the track is drier and return to their "best of the rest" slot behind the Red Bulls.

Can't see how the quali session was a farce and as for teams celebrating a pole, maybe someone should take up watching another sport as they clearly do not understand how f1 works.

It's interesting that George seems to be able to deal with the handling issues than Lewis appears to be able to. Maybe it's the years George spent at Williams.
Fascinating quali session though I'd like to hear what happened to Sainz's car as he stated he was holding back when the car let go, could be a mechanical issue or a incorrect setting.

However today most cars had barn door rear wings so not sure if this is reducing the Mercedes porpoising...
I've seen the story about the gearboxes as well, perhaps then this could the rumoured 'b' spec car https://www.gpblog.com/en/news/108751/all-new-car-for-mercedes-will-be-a-b-spec.html
