Empire at War demo next wednesday!

Thought it was pretty good in terms of a demo. Potential there for huge space battles etc. Wont buy though, student economising and all for an xbox 360.

£4 a month is a complete rip IMHO :(

Same price for a PC magazine and you get access to more demo's plus beta's of MMORPG's. I've got the IGN Insider subscription as well and I think it's worth it for the content, compared to PC Gamer/etc.

I was downloading it last night so should be able to see what the fuss is about when I get home from work tonight. :)

i really liked it the music in the menu at the start sounds amazing.
then doing the tutorials was very well done it had its own story tied in.
The graphics are pretty good (not as good as aoe3) but i like the way laser blast give off heat exhaustion.
Just playing the game is amazing i love the scouts dropping detonators and pegging it and booombbbb :p
The cinematic camera all i can say is wow and wow its like a fight scene from movies.
The space battles although seem simple are great just to watch and it does need a little thinking about with taking down space stations.

Im so getting this game. :)

Got mine from gamershell with no problems. TBH it is the best free site out there for demos as you can always find a free server with 1000mbit bandwidth plus it tells you the usage so you know how fast it will be.

Just played the demo and:

The ground combat is not what I thought it would be, you have to follow a path that has been designed for you, its not as open as I would have liked. Why on earth do you have to take two control points before the main enemy base? I dont see why they have made it so linier

The space combat is just basicly ground combat but with a space skin, when you are taking them 4 frigate ships to the enemy base in the tutorial it could have as easily been 4 tanks to an enemy base, all they would have neededto do is reskin everything.

On the galactic map on the single player mission, you have to follow a set course, you cant just fly accross space and take a planet, you had to fly miles away to take an astroid belt before you could take a planet, even tho the astroid belt wasnt blocking your path to the planet. Strange really, I would have thouight the galactic map you would be allowed to place your fleet anywhere, instead you can only place them on fleet positions above planets.

a few more things but you get the drift, for me the game was a bit disapointing.

I agree, it all does seem a bit scripted and on rails. I had hoped it would be like Star wars supremacy (rebellion) where you could go anywhere, build up fleets, etc.

It seems very plain. Space battles are a disappointment, watching the E3 demo it seemed as if the space battles would be free space cool fights, but as you said it could be a land battle replaced with tanks.

Space battles should last longer, MUCH longer. It should take a few frigs less than 30 secs to destroy an empire frig, they should drag it out making tactics more important, destroying sub sections and so on.

My dream would be a star wars game like this and supremacy where you could build empires, a campaign would take weeks to finish, you could custom build destroyers and super star destroyers with different modules, some carry more troops, others are like gun platforms, other hold thousands of x wings. Huge space battles can take hours with reinforcements on the way, every engagement needing to be planned, the ability to seem in and see little details on the ships, weakening destroyer shields and sending in troops to board and cause distruption, capturing ships to take home and convert, etc. Not all battles ending in destuction of the enemy, some even making you leave as to regroup and come back later.

etc

This game feels very...restricted. To arcadey.

Seems to me like an average RTS with "Star Wars" bolted on top. It's a nice touch that you can fight in space but I don't think this game would keep me interested for long.
