Just fired up the demo last night. I've struggled to get into Total War games in the past. And no doubt I'll get bored/frustrated soon enough with this. But the naval warfare was like nothing I've ever experienced. There was real ship and we was totally fighting. It felt so genuine. And my oh my it looks good. There was a real sea in my monitor - I'm convinced of that.

Does the game require you to be connected to the internet to play it ?

Not if you are playing single player, though you will need to be connected to the internet when you install

I thought that it was intergrated with Steam, even if you get the retail copy you have to register it on steam.

Steam will have to be open for you to start the game, at least thats how I understand it.

A: You will need Steam running in order to run Empire. You can run Steam in off-line mode, so you only need to be on the internet once during installation and from then on you do not; unless you want to play Multi-player of course, which will again require you to be on-line.

Yep you can restart steam to offline mode and play it like that then.

I looooove the demo, been replaying it even though I can do it in my speel just to see all the unit animations.

Disable hardware shadows and stick general shadows to Low and not only does it take 3x the load off of the CPU for a massive performance boost when there's tons onscreen, but you can't really tell any difference visually.

This is going to be epic... now if only I can get steam to let me buy the ****ing thing without giving me errors. Megapack here I come...

so is it actually out on steam on the 3rd? If so, and i get my copy delivered a day earlier than the "shop" release, i should still be able to play it!

Think activation is on the 3rd. The pre-load is meant to be 48hrs before that.

Ahh yes, I always forget about offline mode, never use it myself though.

Kind of miss Rome total war, I loved the meat grinder battles.

What are some good tactics to use for land battles? I can't seem to find anything that works other than just stand in front of the enemy and shoot.

My mate has bought a boxed version of this from Tescos, but he says he can't play it because he gets an error. Is this just because nobody can play it until it is official out so it can be activated by steam?

steam needs to activate it. should be able to play it at 1800GMT on the 3rd.

and theres ment to be a patch due on the day as well.

Hmm, tempted to buy this right now. Just wondering about the Special Forces package though. I quite like the packaging on the standard edition, but like getting all the extras in the special edition... Decisions decisions haha.

Use banana bombs, they can turn the tide of a battle.
