Energy Prices (Strictly NO referrals!)

WOW that cheap rate doesn't start till very late

Think mine 8pm > 6am or very close to that

The clue is in the name. Economy 7 is the typical tariff that provides seven hours of off-peak electric staggered around the country. Normally around midnight. Your mentioning Economy 12 which then means you get twelve hours at this off-peak a day, but not all suppliers or regions will offer this.

Are people starting to fix for a year, 2 years?

I'm coming out of my cheap fixed soon, which I've been in for a few years luckily, through the price hike
Also someone said today, gas is going up 77% in Oct?

Can't decide whether to fix or not either. The cheapest fix I can see by EDF doesn't really look that great.
EDF have a 1 or 2 year I can go on, going to be £30ish per month more.

1 year is £101pm
2 year is £103pm

2 years seems good as only £2pm more than 1 year, but prices may drop? I dunno lol.

I'm thinking of just riding with the price cap a bit longer.

Whatever decision I make will be wrong so I shouldn't even bother thinking about it, lol.

Just out of curiosity, for Octopus customers what combination of import and export tariffs do you have? (Assuming you have solar, batteries and maybe an EV.). Intelligent Octopus Go + Fixed Outgoing?

intelligent octopus and. the 15p export one what ever that is called.

last summer I had flux and made bank on that by charging at work but was only worth it for me for 3 Months of the year..

the rest of the time IO is much better and charge at home

I just went for EDF's two year fix. We've had two mild winters and are in the second of two mild summers. I figure we may not be so lucky in future seasons, and I want air con set up in time for next summer. I don't fancy getting that installed and there being some geopolitical hiccup that will mean energy prices are 2-3x what they are now.

The grift regarding energy prices is also apparent. Our energy bills should be back at 2019 levels going by wholesale gas prices, and yet they're sticking stubbornly high, allowing for massive profiteering by the energy companies. As the prices right now seem to be the 'new normal' and no one's talking about it, it's doubtful they're going to be corrected by like -50%, or whatever the exact number should be.

Just got an email from Scottish Power (my current provider) offering £100 credit if I stay with them. I'm not in contract with them, just riding the standard variable rate tariff. As I set my date for the changeover a couple of weeks ahead, I'll have to mull this offer over (assuming they'll be happy to give that credit and keep me contractless). I suspect I won't bite though, as I should already be due £50 cashback from doing my energy utility swap via Quidco.

I said that as a general at the tail end of Covid and the start of the CoL crisis... Companies will put their prices up using Covid/Inflation as an excuse to put prices up, keep it going for long enough and then its considered the new new normal and they wont put them back down even when they can.

‘Your latest Octopus Energy statement’

Electricity consumption 367 kWh costing £40.81 (£14.13 are standing charges)

Electricity exported 963kwh making £144.44

Total bill for July -£103.63

Account balance £946.03

I didn’t drop my DD after getting solar/batteries installed, I’ve dropped it to £20 now.

We have an EV and a heat pump (gas now disconnected) so that bill will look very different in winter. I only used 1.6kwh of peak time electricity last month.
