Energy Prices (Strictly NO referrals!)

Are Ripple Energy customers here on this thread?

Months ago I was interested to invested in Ripple Energy project to own a wind farm to cut down my Octopus Energy bill and could invest in 2025 until shock news announced Ripple Energy is going bust. :(

I’m pretty sure it only impacts new projects going forward and existing investors are fine and all the co-operatives set up are continuing as normal.

Edit: it wasn’t giving the best return in any case so it’s not a huge loss.

Maybe Octopus will buy them out? They launched a similar scheme recently.

According to that chart, mine's going up. :/
Currently 65.84p -> 67.827p
Looks like N.Wales, Merseyside and Cheshire are paying the highest rates in the UK
Yep I'm in that area too. Crazy high standing charge now, for no apparent reason (and day rate by the look of it, the only one that's pushed past 30p/kWh).

I'm on Octopus Flux and just got my email about price increases. I'm in Central Scotland.

Import
Standing charge (per day) Currently: 62.119p From April: 55.923p
Unit rate - peak (per kWh) Currently: 34.038p From April: 36.153p
Unit rate - flux (per kWh) Currently: 14.588p From April: 15.494p
Unit rate - day (per kWh) Currently: 24.313p From April: 25.824p

Export
Unit rate - peak (per kWh) Currently: 25.595p From April: 27.186p
Unit rate - flux (per kWh) Currently: 4.423p From April: 4.423p
Unit rate - day (per kWh) Currently: 12.850p From April: 9.554p

This deal is via Money Savings Expert website, £35 cashback on top, but I went through TopCashback, so possibly £42.50

I'm already with British Gas, Electricity was already fixed till 2026, and Gas was on PAYG.

There was a slight problem where if you are already with British Gas and you use MSE Energy Club to get the deal it wouldn't show up, but it was explained by an MSE Admin to change it as if you aren't with British Gas for it to show up and follow it through as explained here >> https://forums.moneysavingexpert.co...xed-tariff-v49-from-25-march-25-newsletter/p1

I received a welcome e-mail even though I'm with British Gas already, including a new account number A********. I currently had account numbers for each gas and electricity. Second e-mail to submit meter readings, which I did. I rang British Gas to speak to someone regarding Tariffs and I explained what I did, the British Gas Rep said she could see it on my account, and after 2 days - 29 March 25, everything should be sorted online. Just have to wait and see now, so far so good.

Might jump ship from the Octopus tracker to this. 21.83p a unit seems good compared to the tracker that doesn’t seem to go under that too often. 17.25 pence a day cheaper per day on the standing charge and a bit of cashback to boot, am I missing anything?

I'm on a fixed income and really try hard to budget. I also have a medical condition where I need my house warm (obviously not an issue during summer....usually).
With the increase in wholesale costs in April and another forecast later in the year, I just don't know if I can risk continuing to be on tracker for the moment?

The price cap for April is based on wholesale prices between 18th November and 17th February. As a Tracker customer, you have already paid the higher prices which are causing the cap to increase.

July's cap is expected to be lower (it's based on prices from 18th Feb to 16th May).

Personally, I'm sticking with Tracker for gas.

Here's the new rates, Intelligent Go also dropping the SC.

Glad I jumped to Tomato last year. 4.5p cheaper on the day rate, 3.5p cheaper on the night rate, plus a couple of random times during the day where I pay 14p.

if tomato had a decent export I would consider them as well, until they do however I guess I am sticking with octopus until at least october

Saw this on the BBC news today. Regional pricing?

no one will be surprised that I support this. Currently is nationalised pricing for the energy yet regionalised pricing for the "fixed costs (Standing Charge). Either nationlise both or regionalise both.
