Energy Prices (Strictly NO referrals!)

I live opposite a school with 100 solar panels on its roof. They can't be using the electricity generated in the summer as there is no one there. Would it be possible to buy it off them? Anyone know how much it'd cost to put a cable under a road? :) I suppose their neighbours would be cheaper to supply.
Wow, well done to that school. Community projects like this do exist. You should discuss it with them if you can but it will have more traction if you frame it in terms of powering your whole street.

Just had my first E.on bill since it went on variable - For some reason from end of July I was in credit but that has now been used and my bill today was a massive £90 for a months worth of gold sparkle.

In short, no. The IHD has to be compatible with the smart meter type installed and the software on it in order to get it to pair.

Try here: https://ivie.co.uk/product/ivie-bud/

I moved in to a property with a smart meter (installed by BG) but no IHD.

BG won't help as I'm not their customer and my supplier (Bulb) won't assist as they didn't install the meter.... which is nice of them both!

Ivie (above) said mine is still not compatible with them as no update is shown on the SmartDCC database.
So it might be pot luck for me if it works or not. Might work for you though.
As a general rule i dont think it will. I believe IVIE check the DCC database to see if your meters are commissioned with them. If its come back as not compatible it suggests the meters may not be commissioned. I can check the DCC database for your to check the status of your smart meters if you DM me your MPAN, its up to you :)

Do we have any details of those signed up to fixed tariffs that are above the current cap?
I can only speak for EONNext here but i would assume most suppliers are going to to the same or similar. If you locked in on a higher tarrif then they will adjust the tarrif you are on so it matches the Gov 2 year cap and there should be no need for you to cancel your current plan and move to the SVT. I know EONNext have pulled every tarrif except the SVT and they confirmed anyone on tarrifs higher than the gov 2 year cap will have their prices autoupdated.

Regarding people saying prices have disappeared from their smart meter or the website, don't contact your suppliers, give them a few weeks as i imagine the prices have been pulled while they update the pricing to the gov cap and then there will need to be a massive bulk update to all smart meters pricing. Emailing or chasing suppliers about the correct pricing not showing at the moment will only swamp them in messages at a time where we are all already drowning due to the energy crisis. It'll all be updated in time.

Laying dedicated cables to the local street homes would still be tens of thousands. No point asking, it won't happen.
There are grants you can get for this sort of thing:

Also.... anyone who is fixed on rates cheaper than the gov 2 year cap and is wondering if you will get a reduction on your prices..... are you high? 100% they wont discount your already cheap prices. I would have thought people on a pc building forum would at least have an education level above primary school.....

Firm but fair, not sure where this fantasy springs from

Numpty. Socialism doesn't work

We will get blackouts isn't it obvious yet, the writing is on the wall for all to see.
How can you say this with a straight face when our current system (and conservatism in general) is failing so miserably? The rest of your post is accurate, but the culprit is not socialism it is our current and previous Conservative governments with their callous and retrograde ideology.
