Energy Prices (Strictly NO referrals!)

haha, well every little helps. We had a 15yr old Neff double over which was on it's last legs. Consumption was 7kw  replaced with a ninja convection thingy which is far, far less

won't make much of a dent in that extra £1k, but a few quid

I see, as you say every little helps. Sadly my wife could burn a roast dinner with a candle, so whatever cost savings a more efficient oven offered would still be more than lost with ruined food :( The oven here needs a bloody chimney most of the time...

It's not just turning stuff off from standby, it's the kids leaving the lights on in like 4 rooms during the day and turning the computers off when not in use, not using the tumble dryer/dishwasher no where near as much, it all adds up. It's been a tough slog this month but whatever we have done has been well worth it

That makes more sense then, lights should be negligible (assuming you have LED bulbs), and I wouldn't have thought the PCs would be much while idle, but the dryer will be a big one (iirc I worked out ours is ~£1/load)

Do you think the price cap could be rolled back?

Unlikely. Don't forget Truss was initially saying there was going to be no more help but had to change that when people pointed out it'd probably lead to societal collapse.

I know they like to say that is the bulk of the borrowing of that mini-budget, and it was, but that wasn't what spooked the markets. Its a 'one off' cost that just gets added to our overall debt and every country is doing it in one form or another. It was the tax cuts that spooked the market, as they represent a permanent reduction in the Govts income and because they didn't provide any projections with it, they just looked unfunded and economically innumerate.

So as Hunt has indicated, he's reversing all the tax cuts but I cant see him changing the energy unit price cap, there's no need to to Calm the markets and the problem of unpayable energy bills would still be there

According to Martin Lewis its only a 3 month contract with the suppliers, so after that point its basically a political promise.

I would be surprised if the EPG survived in its current form at its current cap rate for 2 years. I dont think it will be scrapped though.

The price cap is likely to be scrapped..

As far as the EPG is concerned they need to come up with an exit strategy after seeing what happens over the winter - it needs to be means tested some how and maybe stopped over the summer months. I suspect a lot of people can afford a lot more than they let on...

the £400/66pm quid has gone come April, anyway, whether that will be offset by third less or so April usage

Kier hasn't proposed/costed a more targetted, EPG alternative ... just pretending a windfall tax can fix it all.

The headline on the article is definitely a click baiter, its talking about it not been renewed in October 2024.
