Energy Prices (Strictly NO referrals!)

That's a decent idea... But the practicality and initial setup cost might be a pain.
I use about 25kw a day of which 10 i can switch off peak. Rest is just normal household things on 24h a day and lights etc....

25kwh of electric per day isn't really a normal load unless you're sat there farming crypto

I'm a heavy user and I use 16kwh~ per day, I'd struggle to turn enough stuff on to get to 25kwh per day.

A washing machine and drying is about 5kw
Charge car is 6kw
All our hot water is an electric powered heat exchanger.
It is a lot, you are right. Gonna have to do do some measurements. See what else is up.
My sauna is 3kw per hour :p but I think it's the most disgusting experience I've had :p

British Gas... I don't know if to laugh or cry really. My mom is paying £200 a month direct debit and is in credit by £240. They are estimating an annual spend of £3300 for the next year. They have just put the direct debit up to £677 a month! As it's due on the 1st, they are saying there is nothing they can do to cancel/change the payment as it's within 14 days! They agreed to change the December direct debit to £250 though. Do I cancel the direct debit at the bank, and set it up again at a later date, or pay the £677 and request the money back? How on earth can they forecast a £3300 annual spend, but want over £8000 in payment!

IIRC with direct debit you can ask the bank to reverse it if it's gone up a lot without enough notice/no notice.

It sounds like a nonsense that they can't stop it with 14 days to go.

They can stop it, but will not be able to collect a different amount on that day so their system probably blocks it.

Ask them to move DD date back 10 days and they will be able to change it I suspect.
If they still say they cannot then cancel DD if she cannot afford for that to be taken.
Raise a complaint as well IMO

That's ridiculous, no way would I be paying the £677. Just cancel the direct debit in your bank app takes seconds.

It honestly makes no sense that they say on the one hand the direct debit is based on my moms estimated annual usage (£677 x 12 = £8124). But then on the same page say the estimated usage is (£330 gas & £2888 electric = £3218). Am I just being incredibly thick because I still don't believe it really

High electric and low gas, is it mostly electric everything but gas for random things like hot water?

If they have gas central heating then the gas estimate looks way off what I would expect to see.

It was all electric with no gas. I finally convinced her to ditch the 70's storage heaters and get gas installed with a combi for central heating and water. The gas usage will be higher and the electric usage lower I imagine. We have no reference though as this will be the first winter with the new setup.

Then yes I agree it sounds like they've got that wildly wrong.

Maybe they can just take the payment, then refund most of it, and adjust the DD down?

This is why I always prefer the old variable/whole amount monthly DD myself. None of this rubbish of ever-shifting estimated values.

heating energy usually increase 50% in Nov versus oct & 100% in dec/jan/feb, so , if they are trying to bill you what they expect you to use in the actual month , that can explain their logic.

This would be a great price if it was cold and heating was required, but it's not, hence why it's cheap.

What is the Tracker price likely to be in January, when it's minus 5 and demand is so high they are restricting supplies ! -> Probably at the capped price of 22p (gas).
Which means you'll be paying double what everyone else is, when you need it most
The cap is the cap when people fixed, my cap is 11p. Its also likely EPG subsidised, so my cap is now likely lower than 11p, and those on the 16p cap probably have a cap very close to EPG at around 11-12p.

I also dont use much more gas in December than July to be honest. Most of my gas is used on pilot light which is 24/7/365.

Well the UK is currently being used as a intake hub for Europe as Spain and the other deep water LNG terminals are struggling to offload the ships fast enough.

So gas is coming in a Milford and out at Dover, national grid must be making a killing.

but looks like we are pushing hard for hydrogen pipeline.

Looks like utter ******** to me! But then this is the level of competence I have come to expect from british gas in the short but unpleasant time I have been their hostage.

ogged in recently to see if anything has changed but to be fair EDF are that secretive about what your balance is I doubt anything will jump out on their site until they decide to bill you?

This right here bugs me more than anything else right now. It makes me think that they're hiding something or trying to scam you. Can anyone from other energy companies, particularly Octopus confirm you can see your balance as it stands?

Hydrogen.
How on earth would we do it?

I'm not sure how our gas infrastructure works. But wouldn't every boiler in an area need to be hydrogen ready for any switch over?

I think UK will be pleased if Norway or Germany are prepared to make up our gas shortfall, duesto lack of storage, when/if winter comes.

like I suggested if standing order is anticipating typical disproportionate energy use during the year where dec/jan/feb/mar are 2xoct.

In this case, if you cant get it corrected, yes, I'd cancel that DD.

What you've shown makes the DD look like a glaring error

Even ***** gas lets you see

Octopus online portal is the best one I've used so far, the stats and balances are all there for you to see. My balance is delayed though as it calculates it when it's time to pay from what I can see.
