Energy Prices (Strictly NO referrals!)

Has anyone tried to join them recently without an ev? I gave them a call and they did not want to join basically saying would be same price with them as my current supplier so no point etc etc. I think they are trying to avoid paying referral maybe, not that I mentioned that or anything.
But did you say you still wanted to change or did you just back down.

with the EPG, suppliers must have been queuing up to by the Bulb customers (sealed bids ?) - Octopus trying to consolidate it's position. ...

I said it twice, but guy kept repeating the same stuff. I did not insist as recently went smart meter and waiting for my current provider to track the electric on their side. They only seem to get the gas smart meter data at the moment. Might as well wait for that to be sorted before moving to make sure there is a smooth transition.

Also has anyone heard about it now taking 2 days for the switch from one company to the other to occur? Apparently it is something somewhat new. In the past it always took 3 weeks at least for me.

I imagine there's really not many people switching these days so the process has sped up for that that do? Less delays in behind the scenes processes?

The switch was very quick but then I received a final bill from Shell which was showing they were still our supplier a few weeks later.

I can't find a link to switch, I just went on their website and signed up as anyone would. Maybe they've changed it now with the influx of Bulb customers coming over too.

Just get creative, tell them you're getting an EV even if your not, they should let you switch over then on the SVR.

Ha, İ actually did say that and that's when he said once you actually have it or nearly have it call us as it takes 2 days to transfer. He did say you will need to provide proof etc etc. Lol.

Thing is this dude was by the sounds of it from an British call centre and more on the ball and harder to confuse. I would have pushed more but once he told me it take 2 days to switch I thought is true I can push for it soon once my current provider gets my electric readings via smart meter.

Does seem weird they don't want to switch you so badly, it's not like the gov aren't paying the additional above cap pricing.

Call back and speak to someone else. If they refuse maybe ask why because saving money isn't the only reason to switch, and the referral stuff isn't that big of a deal.

Perhaps your current supplier isn't very good and you want to switch to a better one, or to enable time of use tariff use like Go etc.

Just got my British Gas email to say my fixed is still above the cap even with discounts so I can switch to SVR and save £30 a year.

As the cap is 'reviewed' in April and my fix is until July its another "let's guess the future", probably just stay put as if prices increase in April il have 3 months of fix left.

When logging into Scottish Power, I get a prompt asking if I would like to switch my smart meter to read every half-hour instead of monthly. I have so far declined every time it asked me, so I thought I'd check with you guys first if you know of any benefits of having half-hourly meter readings? Thanks :-)

There isn't really one unless you're on a time of use tariff like I am with Octopus that requires accuracy down to 30 minute windows necessarily.

I think there was usually a middle option as well, less often but more than monthly.

In Scottish power app you can get a graph of your intraday electricity usage. More a curiosity than insight.

More detailed usage stats?

Time of use tariff

Nation grid turn down rewards program will require probably 30mins usage

Thanks fellas. I was only hesitant because I thought I would be inadvertently signing up to a new contract. But now I will enable the half-hourly readings in case SP decides to switch to time-of-use leccy or that awards scheme starts up.

My cousin moving into a new flat and their energy supplier is British Gas, can they be tied down to them?

Wouldn't have thought so.

It would have been the previous occupier that had a contract with them, not your cousin.
