Just got my smart meter installed by Blub but having problems getting the little unit connecting to the SmartThings app. Has anyone had luck getting it connected?

(being with bulb) interesting, hadn't heard of the smarthing integration, can't see what exact data it enables you to see&save, to understand your use.

not that surprining, but you need an smets2+correct IHD
What's the difference between an IHD and a CAD?
Most of Bulb's IHDs have a built-in 'CAD' or Consumer Access Device. Other companies supply the CAD as a separate hub that you plug into your broadband router. If you have a CAD, and connect it to your home Wi-Fi, it works as a bridge, sending much more frequent readings (around once per minute) than the meters can over the radio or mobile network.

It's supposed to show you pretty much everything the IHD shows you (usage). It's on my wifi, I've entered the GUID and the 4 words and it connects but instantly says service removed. Then it just sits in the app as offline.

Damn EDF gave me a non-wifi IHD
EDF don't support the protocall they use that's why you have one without WiFi. It was decided to keep smart as simple as possible, and having the ability to "tap in" to the information stream is not part of that plan.

To be fair it's the weekest link in the security chain (your own network)

I'm really annoyed by the news that energy suppliers are putting prices up. This is from the BBC news:

Energy prices will rise for millions of people across the UK in April, at a time when finances are squeezed

'Regulator Ofgem said the price cap for default domestic energy deals would be raised to cover suppliers' extra costs. The typical gas and electricity customer is likely to see their bill go up by £96 to £1,138 a year. Charities say the timing is a "double whammy", coming at a time when the government's Covid-related support schemes are due to be wound down.

Ofgem said rising wholesale costs were behind the increase, adding that the existence of the price cap meant households saved £100 a year, and they could also switch to a better deal.'

Given that most of the country has been at home for months on end because of covid, people will have been using way more gas and electric than normal and so suppliers and wholesalers must be raking it in! And yet they think they need to increase prices.

These WiFi enabled displays sound promising how do you know if your supplier is fitting them?

We'd used loads of gas last month, newborn baby and being home 24/7 is not good.

Well now is the perfect time to increase prices, some people are using more, so they can pay more!

The consistent higher prices, more inflation and no wage increases is really quite tiresome.

Why are you annoyed? The cap (note this is a cap, lots of people pay far less) is driven by wholesale costs which are in the short term, outside the control of the regulator.

If you spend 3 minutes a year switching your supplier you’ll pay a good 20% less than the cap price.

Edit: forgot to add, the wholesale cost tends to rise and fall with the prices of oil and gas. The link is less strong these days but given how much of our energy comes from gas, it has a big impact.

Just switched to Octopus after being with British Gas in my new place for 3 months - got fed up of their crappy support, so took the £30 hit to switch within initial contract term. NO idea if I did good or bad...

I opted for the cheapest option - but how do you go about working out which plan is the best once I've switched is it all fairly obvious?

You work it out, either using simple maths in a spreadsheet or a comparison website for instance.
You'll need to know how much gas and electric you use in a year.

I'm really confused as to how electric smart meters work with payments. Ever since mine was installed six months ago, I've only ever been charged for gas. I'm about £400 in credit.
My monthly DD is £90, we have two electric cars, and only ever see gas mentioned on the statements.

Supplier is octopus on the go tariff.

I've emailed them a couple of times, and each time they've adjusted the amount and taken payment. Doesn't seem very automated.

Exactly the same thing here, on the Go Tariff, only Gas appears on statement. Not overly bothered though.

Had an email from Octopus.

We recently switched to them from BG, based on all the info given, readings etc, it made sense for a better deal.

They emailed to say that our Direct debits are about right, but out account is at -£80 and not where they expect it to be at this time of year. They go on to suggest making a one off payment to bring it back to 0.

In my head this almost wipes out a huge chuck on any saving made by the switch in the first place. And in past experience, the balance sorts itself out in the warmer months of the year while we don't use heating but continue to pay the fixed DD?

I Mean I don't mind paying it, just seems odd. We have only been with them about 2-3 monthsi guess what they may do if I don't balance it out now is Up the payments to something silly.

Just message them and say leave it all as it is of you don't want to change anything.
I'm on their variable payments so my account stays at £0.

Not really sure what we are on, something fixed I'm sure.

But I thought that was sort of the idea, may drop below 0 when you use more but balances out later in the year.

I did reply but not heard back :D

It's supposed to be how it works in reality they all want you to be in credit.
I prefer to just pay what I owe.
