Energy Suppliers

Still waiting for my final bill for the few days I was with Shell until my switch completed plus the couple of hundred quid they owe me. What a farce this is turning into!! They told me I would have the final bill by the end of November but that never happened.

I have some questions if someone can help things are a little confusing

1. I switched from Green (in credit) to Avro (in credit) switch was completed the day before they went bust. I have been switched to octopus but I've since had an email from green telling me ill be switching to shell,

Now my question is who am or will I be with?

2. Green has sent me a final statement dated 8th December 2021 I was upto date on the 20th September but I've been with avro Date of Contract 1st September start supplying you on 22nd September 2021 and octopus since 26th September when they took over

3. Avro is still taking large payments every month without a statement, do I need to contact octopus? should i cancel my DD

4. What is the variable rate?
octopus has put me on Flexible Avro which I think may be wrong
Flexible Avro
Unit rates
Electricity: 19.89p per kWh
Gas: 3.94p per kWh
Standing charges
Electricity: 26.82p per day
Gas: 26.11p per day

I can't answer all your questions but I don't think you can really get a better deal than these prices at the moment, for me it's like a 50% rise from my old ones.

Any deals I look at cost more than the rates you've mentioned, and it's similar to what I've been put onto with EDF.

You can also contact your bank and use your DD guarantee to get a refund. As you are no longer with AVRO and haven't been for some time, they should be able to undo all DD's that AVRO have taken from you since your official switch over.

That's what I did anyway, cancelled DD to AVRO and contacted my bank to refund the payment they took after I left them.

ok thanks, but is this more than the standard variable rate?

At this point I’d cancel the DD with Avro and contact Octopus.

Ignore shell.
thanks ill do that, also should I cancel my green DD ?

I don't think so, it looks similar to what I've been put onto. Put your figures into comparison sites if you want, I don't think anything better really exists at the moment.

Yes, I would. Any credit from Green may wind up with Shell though, so in the end you may need to wait a bit and then contact Shell to get your balance sent back to you.

I'm having to do this now as I had credit with AVRO who I switched away from, and then they collapsed before they could send me my balance back from the final bill.

I don't think I will get anything better I just wanted to check if it's what should be charged, I thought it looked a little more than what the variable rate was but I've been unable to find the standard variable rate online.

How long do you think I should wait before I contact shell?

Lord knows, it's all a mess. I am not even sure how long I should wait before contacting Octopus for the same sort of reason (AVRO collapse).

Your credit will always be protected though, and any credit should move to the SOLR as well.

I know such it a mess, even the octopus staff does not know most of the time, im still waiting for my first bill. I just hope they don't inflate the amount, to give me more work.

Did you also need to pay the new Octopus rate even before the switch was completed instead of the Avro rate?

It's complicated, like you I had switched a bit before it all died.

I was with AVRO then I switched to Utility Point. My switch to UP completed, but AVRO kept charging me.

UP took a large DD then also died. I moved to EDF energy by default.

So my final bill/credit from when I was with AVRO should be with Octopus, but I am not a customer of Octopus and never was. But I need to get my credit that got moved over to them back.

My credit I had with UP should go to EDF automatically. My issue is as above, that AVRO held some and I am not with them or Octopus who they moved to. Credit that was with UP would move to EDF for me.

Thanks for the help, give it a go and see what happens.

AVRO had like £20 of mine, I'll probably wait until Jan before I bother with it too much.

Painful enough trying to talk to energy companies without having to actually get something out of them! :D

I know lol such a headache, they have over £350 of mine and its still going up, it's better to get it via the bank before it goes to octopus.

I'm in the same boat :D

Well, almost, electricity had switched over to avro but it seems the gas hadn't.
Electricity is now up and running with octopus (final balance from avro hasn't switched over yet) other than a final bill from green I've heard nothing from Shell so far.
I stopped both my DD the day they went bust, I'm not that trusting so i I'd rather the money stayed in my account until I'm asked for it.
I'm continuing to ignore it, it'll get sorted out eventually.
