Energy Suppliers

Possibility of 50% rises next year, glad I fixed for the forseeable future. Some people are going to find themselves in a lot of trouble with energy costs. ...

I only had a year deal on offer so in reality it would have been paying more for 6 months than less for the 6 months after.

We will find out how thick skinned the government are, are they as keen to cut taxes on energy as they are for top rate earners and inheritance tax.

Also how competitive is the wholesale market?

Glad I fixed in October even though basically everyone was saying I should go onto the variable
So you think you did well by purposely paying more. That's logic for you.
Those of us on variable are paying a low rate until April where it will go up likely to what your paying now, so we have 6 months at a cheaper rate than you.
Then in October when you come off your fix you'll be hit with the next rise, so you've avoided nothing.

I claimed 200 cashback for that switch so rate was comparible

But I was always looking towards next winter not this winter. It's more important for myself as work from home so even savings on electricity in summer matter

Trying to get a gas reconnection sorted. It's been so long since it was turned on, that it is having to be treated as a new connection. Nobody will touch it apart from british gas who will only install a new meter if i go on to their fixed tariff. They no longer offer a variable tariff to new customers. Looks like I will have to fix for a year, and then pay the £75 exit fee to get out of the tariff and swap to another company who will take me on at a variable rate. If british gas would put me on the variable rate, I would be happy to stay with them and even move my electric, but they literally do not want business. What a strange situation we are in at the moment.

We do reconnections and new connections at EDF not sure on the tariff but I would suggest talking in the phone rather than using the online portals.

'UK natural gas prices slumped below 270 pence a therm on Monday, in line with the Dutch contract and has shed more than 40% from a record 451.72 pence over the past four sessions, as more US LNG tankers sailed to the UK and other European countries, whilst fears of a Russian invasion of Ukraine faded. Moscow withdrew over 10,000 troops from drills near the Ukraine border, easing concerns about harsh economic sanctions being slapped on Russian gas exports. Meanwhile, out of the 15 American LNG tankers with declared destinations in Europe, 4 were headed to the UK and 1 to Gibraltar, while one undeclared ship was moored at a UK anchorage. Earlier this week, prices had rallied to all-time highs bolstered by a combination of freezing temperatures and lower power output from alternative sources, which added to previous concerns about delays in the Nord Stream 2 pipeline approval and rising tensions in eastern Europe.'

A little bit of respite in the gas wholesale prices which is good. Hopefully things continue to calm again over the next few months.

I wouldn’t put it past some of those ship owners to weigh anchor in the hope prices will rise again if their load hasn’t already been bought.

I have my fingers crossed that things will calm by April/May 2022. Of courses we all know that even if wholesale gas prices drop to what they were before the issue, the resellers will not pass all of that saving on as they have some lost profits to catch back up from all the people on the fixed rate deals pre-price rises.

Nuclear scaremongering has a lot to answer for. Also, self generation FIT rates at 5p per KW/H are a complete joke at present. Should be tied as a % of average unit selling price.

I think the, reds under the bed , or whatever the adaption of that is for the Chinese, with their little deployed/special-sauce reactor design, is, a concern.

Eon Chameleon home smart meter display failing to show electricity Kwhr consumption - always reads zero ?
we power cycled it and restarted in close proximity to the meter, but still no joy, all other readings correct, including electricity used price.

couple of other issues from christmas dinner discussions on electricity suppliers - we missed the queen
- Entering Eon alphanumeric account numbers on their phone system - do you enter a C, for example, by pressing 2 once ? relation doesn't have a smart phone.
- Their billing seems to have tight restriction on browsers versions, or, is using obscure web-sites blocked by ublockO,
the page is rendered corrctly, but then goes blank/white ?

We did a 2 Year fix in September with Eon Next but we’re in the process of buying/selling and it appears you can’t take your tariff with you so It looks like we’ll be paying a lot more once we move.

Got my renewal through today from British gas

Right now I pay about ~£70pm or £946
New fix would be ~£180 or £2144
SVR ~£115 or £1375

The fix is for 18 months. Sounds like I should be fixing rather than trying to save money short term on the SVR?

You really think price will go up that much in the short term that that ludicrous fix is worth taking now?

My fixed plan comes to an end in January. Will just leave it at the capped price which is much cheaper than any fixed.
