Its going to be a difficult time for many people/families over the coming months.
Its only going to get worse and worse.

This could be the most serious impact on personal Finances since I've been an adult.

It's not a quick fix (ie can't knock up a nuclear power plant in a year)
It's completely uncontrollable for the UK
It's a coat which can't really be avoided.

If this trend continues and its 50 percent higher again in October I wonder what will happen? There's only so much cash you can raid from the rich to pay for the ever increasing numbers who will fall into the subsidised band.

Next winter could be horrendous for many. I'm sure many vulnerable people will die

The inflation print at 5.4% released today sure tells a story. And it's not gonna get better... Hopefully the government doesn't try to cool this down with interest rate hikes!

Has any of the Green contingent who were jumping ship else where when they went bust managed to get a correct bill from shell yet?

I got my first bill from them over a month ago and they just estimated it on an ongoing basis since they took over. I just need them to bill the 9 days or so they were my provider and refund the balance, simple right?

It seems shells customer support don’t really understand despite having all the information in front of them.

I had a welcome email from Shell, but not heard anything else since. I don't think they've quite cottoned on yet that i managed to switch before they took over Green. They do still owe me about £30-40 though so will be chasing them soon for a refund.

I'm planning on the new costs becoming the norm, quite possibly higher too, especially if it all kicks off in the Ukraine.

There's already talk of doubling the interest rate in the next couple of months.

More persistant talk of oil being well over $100 again, maybe as high as $200 next year.

Unless the world explodes, I would expect gas prices to be a fair bit lower into the next summer, maybe half the current price (so still high).

Sorry to ask what might be a silly question. I know gas prices are set to increase by something like 50% or more but will electricity follow that too or is it just gas?

A large portion of electric is generated in gas powered power stations so unfortunately yes electric will go up too.

I haven't heard anything from Shell since I contacted them back in November let alone a final bill for the 10 days or so before my switch completed. It's pretty poor on their part and they are holding a couple hundred pounds of my money.

Thanks. Yeah, thought so since it still takes fossil fuel to create electricity. Apart from central heating in winter and general hot water usage for the taps and taking a shower, I mostly use electric (as I suppose do most people that have electric ovens and electric hobs), so was hoping I might escape bills the rest of the year but it would seem not.

You might find it cheaper to fit a gas hob depending on how much you use it.

Our new house has a electric hob. Not sure if there was a prior gas main but I wish I could covert back to gas.
I was even thinking gas hob connected to lpg canister outside?
Won't be cooking at this rate!

You’d need to factor in the cost of swapping, that’s a lot of gas to burn to make up for that. The vast majority of gas used for space heating and not cooking. It’s not just the hob either, you need a gas person to come and fit it as you can’t do it yourself.

Likewise an electric hob is way more efficient so it’s really just not the case of the fuel being cheaper therefore it’s a cheaper option.

LPG is very expensive compared to mains gas.

Agh right. Cheers for the info. Makes sense to keep it then.
