Energy Suppliers

I'm not sure why we're at such a deficit though as our usage is no more than it was a year ago. It's the back to back increases that surprises me. Annoyingly Bulb don't do smart meters so I can easily track actual usage.

I'm with bulb and have smart meters

So is the wisdom still to just go onto the SVR of the current provider? Could be moving in the next 2-3 months from a house where we aren't responsible for the bills so dreading what kind of tariff I'm going to get. Also have an EV so looking to get cheap overnight rates where we can run washer and dishwasher etc too. Just very scared of the day rate

Bleeding heck, I have the worse luck with energy suppliers! My new place is provided by bristol energy and they still haven't got around to sending me any paperwork to state they have changed the supply to my name. I hope it's actually been done on their computer system and any letters regarding the new supplier don't end up going to the old owners new address!

Latest predictions are about 1900-1950gbp a year on average!

Would be nice to know the plan please government!

At best I assume some sort of plan to help the poorest (maybe an increase in the warm home discount or something) while everyone else will have to suck it up.

Yes that's the bit I'm interested in. How is it going to be redistributed?
How are they going to pay for the support?

Warm homes discount is paid for by other bill payers. Increasing it only increases the pressure on everyone else.

I guess it will be bundled in with general Tax? Can't see another option.

Imagine if housing was cheaper so this wasn't so devestating to so many

I thought this would happen back in October.

Entered my usage into BG yesterday, I was switched as part of the peoples energy move around 4 months ago.
Bill will be £650 or so for those 4 months. When I moved to PE it was set at £115 but that was a slight overstatement at the time as i was using more in 2020 mining and the usage I entered was based on that.

I am trying to work out if I am getting charged extra for paying in arrears rather than DD, I thought they couldnt do this but its unclear on their site. The unit price is capped, but do they have the ability to charge differently based on DD vs no DD whilst on the cap

I am kind of resistant to setting my DD back up now as i will move if options come up.

Oh and despite me supplying meter readings for the opening they are different. Both in my favour, maybe £75 or so. Although I was £150 in credit with Peoples when I updated the readings as they went pop.
Bloody mess tbh.

I dont think I have used an energy company that have been competent in the last 6 years.
BG, EDF, Octopus, Scot power, PE, they all manage to mess up at some point. I suppose in theory a smart meter should reduce this, but they still seem to be completely and utterly unable to do basic things right.

The bix 6 have all been absolutely drowned in new customers over the last 6 months. None of their systems / staffing levels were set up and ready to receive the level of customers they've been dumped with (and bare in mind all of these new customers mean a greater profit loss too since they are supposedly operating at losses with the current price cap).

Has any of the Green contingent who were jumping ship else where when they went bust managed to get a correct bill from shell yet?

I got my first bill from them over a month ago and they just estimated it on an ongoing basis since they took over. I just need them to bill the 9 days or so they were my provider and refund the balance, simple right?

It seems shells customer support don’t really understand despite having all the information in front of them.

I DM'd them on Twitter last month, they'd sent me my first bill based on estimated readings (v. high in comparison), they adjusted with my supplied readings and sent an updated bill 24 hours later - my credit from green covered the last three months and I ended up owing £1 ish. They were quick to respond and very helpful in my experience

Thing is I have been with all the above outside the last 6 months
I was with BG when I moved in here and left them about 5.5 years ago.
All the rest have no excuse basically, well certainly in regards COVID nor the recent issues

I emailed them and they responded quickly but didn’t understand the issue and asked me to provide current meter readings despite me giving them all the opening and closing readings in the original email.

I replied and they never got back to me. I rang and they said I needed to ask Sainsburys/Eon to send them the relevant information. I rang them and they said don’t be silly and that I formation is held centrally and they have access to it.

Back to emailing Shell again… they are going to owe me about £200.

There is an energy charity in York who help advise people on low income to keep costs down.

He said in April, to expect my bill to go up, from £48, to a minimum of £75 and that most peoples' bills will increase by 50% over the next 2 years.

It could possibly increase even more, if in April, the government don't put on another price cap.

I'm currently with bulb and have a smart meter for my gas but he told me to sit tight with them for the moment.

It's really quite alarming and anxiety inducing how bad things could get. :(
