Energy Suppliers

Was going to go to Bulb but Green Energy were only a fraction more expensive going through the Cheap Energy club and at least it's fixed for 12 months.
this maybe the best strategy,
I should learn from the time of the original Brexit vote, where the prices and fixed price offers , shot up, proceeding that, so maybe the same again (Bday-51days 14hours)

Some useful/interesting info about the second gen smart meters here - https://www.smartme.co.uk/technical.html for anyone interested. Seems a lot better thought out and not relying on mobile data and using a private WAN too.

They say a "purpose built communication network is used with these meters" but they don't seem to specifically call out how it will communicate with this network.

Once again it sounds like it's not using your normal internet, so it must be using the mobile network again, or something like it.

They also state that the meters can talk to other meters to generate a mesh network, not a big fan of this idea.

They should really make one that can just use your wifi connection to send the data over the internet, I'd probably at least be a little more on board with the idea then.

I have a SMETS1 meter as my house came with it, but I think it's the biggest waste of time going and I would rather have a dumb meter.

Yes they use (in the south of the country) the old O2 2g network. In the north its Vodafone.

This is correct but currently disabled until a few security issues have been worked out, the data the meter sends back is all numbers, 160 digit meter identifier and the meter reading. the identifier is unique to the meter and in no other way linked to your property. The whole reason SMETS2 has taken so long is the security of customer data.

Security! a closed network is far more secure than using a relatively poorly secured home network, even the most secure home network is far less secure than a completely closed network.

Personal opinion, the idea of smart metering is great, implementation has been poor and reporting is always going to be about the negatives.

I work in the industry, I have been installing meters in residential properties for the last 2 years and installing smart meters for the last 10 years in business premises. I previously worked for SWEB and now fro EDF as they bought up the metering part of the South West some years ago. If you have any questions then please ask.

Just had my smart meters installed, I asked for a SMETS2 and he said that's fine. It would have been the original one if I hadn't have asked, so if you're having one installed it's a good idea to ensure you get a 2.

I have just changed go Pure Planet after British gas put our bill up from from 39 a month to 102 a month after a smart meter was installed.

Anyway pure planet claims all of its energy is natural. Fair enough but how does that work when the gas energy i receive is coming through the same system/pipes as it woud be with any other provider?

It's all a joke in reality as for almost all residential properties it all comes from the grid. I can see that providers purchase energy from one wholesale supplier or another but how that is then reflected in the actual energy you use ... because it isn't!

It all comes from the grid!

How can your utility bill increase by nearly 300%
I don't trust those smart meters. Also, am I right in thinking once installed the companies will be reluctant to remove.
