Engagement

A friend in work (we both work together) got engaged and the other half tried on her ring and it fitted perfectly so I asked her for her ring size and got it that way. I did involve my fiance though in choosing a ring as she's very fussy so I could see what style she liked and the size of stone she wanted. We went round a few jewellers then I told her I was pcking the final one which is what she wanted. She was adiment that I didn't spend anymore than a few hundred pounds then I discovered Blue Nile and came across the perfect setting and picked an almost perfect diamond because she didn't want any bigger than 0.3 carat. I didn't want to spend an absolute fortune but at the same time I decided I was only planning on buying one engagement ring in my life and she will be wearing it the rest of her life so I wanted a good quality one. I think if she knew what it cost she wouldn't wear it!

In the end it all worked out well, the ring fitted and from time to time I still catch her staring at it when it sparkles under the light. The smile on her face makes it worth every penny.

Aww that's lovely :)

Well in the end I bought a ring, wasn't the right size but they said they'd take it back once I did the deed to resize it or replace for another ring.

The perfect chance to do it came up after she was so upset after bumping my car, nothing would cheer her up so luckily I had the ring and proposed and even better she said yes so its now on to hard saving to pay for the wedding....never knew how expensive!!!! some people really know how to milk the occasion

I got a massive ring that didnt fit. I got a bag of haribo with jelly rings, got down on one knee
"Will you marry me?"
"not with that I wont"
"What about with this?"
*Pulls out ring"

She said my heart was racing and I was shaking like crazy. Obviously it wasnt the right size, I knew that. The shop told me to ring up when I find out what size she is, and bring the original back once they have the replacement in shop.

We've now splt up and she wants to keep the ring as a memory, and thinks its bad I'd accept a gift back even though its meaninless now..

18 carot white gold and a 1/4 carot diamond.. golds expensive these days, could do with the spare money too :(

The way I'd do it would be to buy one of those packets of Haribo mix and use one of the gummy rings.

But I'd put it in a nice presentation box and everything, hoping that she'd see the funny side...

HAHA! Great minds think alike!

If you've broke up i'd have the ring back...why would she want to keep it as a memory? probably wants to keep it to get the money for it

and cheers everyone! :D

I'm going to struggle with this (when the time comes) as she doesn't wear any jewellery on her hands.

Which i'm partly glad about, as necklaces i've bought her in the past just get misplaced. :|

dont worry about it, shops are quite understanding....the one i went to said i can either take the ring and return it if she says yes to get the correct size measured so at least i've got a ring for doing the deed or order the correct size before hand.
