Engine just went pop

WTF! I'm shocked, I was reading down thinking yep definately a wind up, but no.

Really sorry to hear that Will. Proper gutting to lose a engine, let alone a freshly built one.

:(

should have stuck with hairdryers :p

still a very small chance I can get the garage that did the rebuild to fix it but im not really holding out much hope. need to decide which engine to go for now, maybe 2.2 or 2.5 but not sure atm if I can afford the remap and enginge transplant.

bah oh well, gibbo, no idea about the BMW not driven it, its a 54 reg thing its at our other offices and I havent been there yet :)

Isnt the 2.2 the one in the 22B :D

Thats a wounder so close to purchase, does make you wonder if there was an underlying rebuild problem from before!

Do i sense a 2.35 litre stroker kit on the horizon?? You know it makes sense! :p :D ;)

ZOMG

where is the "hi there" ???? :p

Hi there ! :p

Well if its the new shape 535D which I imagine it is then I think your gonna be impressed and love it.

I am guessing here but I think they are like 260BHP and approx 380-420lb-ft torque, I am sure FOX will know.
The only thing is with a TUNE-IT box or similar device it takes them upto approx 310BHP and around 500lb-ft of torque. Needless to say they can hit 60mph in approx 6s but in-gear acceleration I think they are able to even pull ahead of the new V10 M5. So one might surprise you! ;)

It is common yes, it was major off put for myself when I was looking at P1's as it seems an issue that effects the P1 engine more so than any other Subaru engines and I dunno why.

Seriously gutting for you though Will Gill as this should not have happened with the engine been rebuilt.

My view is the guy selling knew something was about to go and covered it up or the engine rebuilt was not done correctly or the engine was not run-in correctly after been rebuilt.

Hope you get it sorted m8, guess this means we won't be seeing you at the RR. :(
It's because Subarus and Evos are just riced up 2.0 engines with big turbos stuck on as an afterthought. :) Somethings gotta give...

Just get a Skyline WG and be done with :D (or stuck with the bulletproof-engine S2000)

Damn!

:( :(

Absolutely gutted for you mate, I really am. As for engines, go for 2.2 or 2.35, a 2.5 is nice and torquey but you lose 1k off the redline (7k as apposed to 8k with a 2.0/2.2/2.35) due to the longer stroke. All depends on preferance of course, but I wouldn't like to lose the revs.

what the heck you have only had that 5 seconds. Is it common for these engines to just 'go'

Makes note to never buy scooby.

Standard P1 engines let go due to Prodrive not mapping them for UK fuel, it's not actually the engine itself.

My own scooby was running 346bhp on standard internals, internals that had 110k + miles on them. I drove it like I stole it daily, it lived in the redline. I had no problems whatsoever, it didn't miss a beat the whole time I owned it. Will's previous Scoob had a similar story.

There's clearly an issue with the rebuild and/or map in this case.

yeah the bottom end went in the carpark from my work after a very boring drive in and utterly no hanky panky, its just bad luck, if it had gone doing 150mph then I would blame myself, as it is im just mildly annoyed im not going to get to the RR :(

Ouch!!

I thought this was a wind up thread (I'm still hoping that it is)

Hope everything works out ok and that you're back with mega power soon enough. Maybe another RR day later in the year once you're all sorted?

My dads boss had a first gen scooby with over 200k miles on it, and it had never been rebuilt, though the turbo was getting a bit smoky...

The rest of the engine system will need to be checked to ensure that there isn't an underlying problem with the car, otherwise engine No.3 will also go regardless of how well built it is. Not just the ECUs map, but the AMM (MAF), rest of the fuel system including pump and injectors, knock sensor etc.

ok

update

Just went over there with my mate who tunes cossies (has a 600hp one) and he had a look over it, turned out the intercooler had blown the hose connecting it to the throttle body, in doing so this caused it to wedge against the strut brace.

so maybe,

the knocking was the IC on the strut brace, the weird idling, stalling and misfires were caused by the lack of IC / air pressure

so maybe,

the car is fine, ive just driven it for 20 mins not got one light on the knocklink (apart from the single green power one :p), sooooo it may be that the car is fine, I'm kind of in shock, I'm never that lucky and had already ordered a new 2.2 :( luckily they let me cancel the order :D

so I'm going to drive home without the stereo on and listen to everything!! HOPEFULLY everything will be ok *crosses fingers*

so in the spirit of the david beckham broken bone scenario I'd like you to all stroke this picture and pray for my scoob to AOK

thanks and if you believe in him, praise be to god!!!
