Engine Sizes

Renault and PSA do not develop engines together, they do it themselves.

Renault and Nissan, as said above, share engines, platforms and other components quite heavily.

I was just pointing out that it was rather amusing to be so anti Renault but pro Nissan when the reality is that they are becoming two sides of the same coin..

Totally agree, but on the other side Nissan's reputation seems to have been taking a real tanking. How old is the P12 Primera now and no replacement it was a good car all in all. It seems to be Electric, micro, small, small MPV or 4x4. Exception of sports of course.

Shame really as cars like the Primera were a million times more reliable than the Laguna.

In response to Nickg.

Turbo technology caught up and engines of the 00s allowed higher compression and therefore inherent better efficiency.

CO2 legislation is driving the downsizing we are seeing now as OEMs are trying to reduce fleet averages.

Oddly it seems Nissans demise roughly tallies with Renault's control :D

It gets worst Fox, Warranty direct reliability index has the Nissan Micra at 5 and the first Renault, the Megane at 47.

Poor Nissan :(

Goodbye mad cars like the Skyline

Doesn't get any better on What Car? Nissan is 7th out of 32 and Renault is 30th

Technically they went madder with the Gtr r35. However this at a much higher price. What happened to the.mad 20k car like the pulsar the 200sx which were actually affordable cars with real performance potential?

Looks like the new RenaultSport Clio is going to be a 1.6 turbo (Nissan engine) if the rumours are true. Hope not, I love mine and don't think it'll be the same with a turbo strapped to it!

I think the RS clios will follow suit.

Going to go a little off topic here.

Can anyone tell me why cars dont come with a fixed speed limit (say 70mph for all cars in GB)?

Because it's a bad and unsafe idea. One way to think of it is for overtakes - if your car is fixed absolutely to 70mph max then if you choose to try and overtake someone going at slightly under the speed limit your time exposed to danger (at least I've been told that's the correct phrase as per advanced driving courses) is greatly increased so rather than limiting you to 70mph being safer it becomes more unsafe.

Yet its perfectly fine to restrict small vans?

Small vans don't usually have the power to overtake anyway :p I suspect it's in place to reign in some of the lunatics in vans.

lol so then what of your average driver?

So you've said it would be dangerous to limit to 70 incase one needed to overtake. So why not raise the limit to around 80 or 90. No car needs to go above 140

Come on all you 'must be large capacity N/A' luddites, get with the programme. A decent turbocharger implementation and you won't be able to tell the difference (feel wise) between a 2.0T and a 3.0 N/A.

The noise might not be as impressive, but in a decade we'll all be driving electrics anyway, so get used to it!

I'm not saying I like it, I'm simply saying there's nothing that we can do about it.

The Motorways are not full of people doing 140mph+ though, so it's fixing a problem that doesnt exist.

No, but the opportunity to do so is there.

I was hoping for something with a small efficient nuclear fusion reactor in the next decade. Granted if I crash it it is likely to radiate a small town but it it shouldn't need refueling for about 50 years. :D
