*Coady

Rice
Henderson
Maddison

Sancho
Grealish

Backup players to fill out prelimary squad of 30, if they do that this time:
Alli
Wan-Bissaka
Saka
Rashford
Phillips
Dier
Lingard

edit: bit of a reshuffle, forgot about Maddison. Also starred players I might swap out potentially.

Biggest issue for England is the spine of the team, aside from Kane we don't really have many central players that will truly strike fear into the hearts of the opposition, they are either relatively unproven or coming off an iffy season.

Dier and Pickford will go. Southgate loves them both for some reason, Pickford especially. Rashford will go too.

Those on your list as definites, chances are Alli might miss out and likely Johnstone in favour of Pickford. Watkins will likely be one of the backups if Ings isn't fit.

Ayling better than them all.

Alli? Not a chance he goes and neither does ward prowse. He will take Rashford because he likes him.

Keepers: Pickford, Pope, Henderson
Defenders: Trent, Trippier, Walker, Stones, Maguire, Mings, Coady, Shaw, Chilwell
Midfield: Hendo, Rice, Phillips, Bellingham, Foden, Mount, Grealish, Saka
Forwards: Sancho, Sterling, Rashford, Kane, Watkins, Greenwood

Easy.

I think he'll take DCL ahead of Watkins or Greenwood and he's going to fit Dier in somehow, maybe for Mings at CB, maybe instead of Hendo if he doesn't play again this season.

Shame Maddison went off the boil and Barnes got injured, he's had a great season and would've deserved to go.

Rest I agree with but it's got to be the weakest squad we've had for decades.

Henderson won't play for us, Klopp confirmed that already but with a 26 man squad it's easy to take a risk or two. Dier might go because he offers some versatility but I'd take Mings simply because other than Maguire (who could be an injury doubt) there's nobody else dominant in the air around at CB. DCL and Watkins was a bit of a toss up but Watkins is in better form and I can't see the point in taking both. Given that we'll play just 1 centre forward, Kane + 1 + Rashford is enough, you can then take extra wide forwards/creative mids.

I've decided to demote Alli based on the fact he's not had that many chances under Mourinho so the end of the season has come a bit too soon for him, and I'd forgotten Maddison. I do think Alli has one of the highest potential of England players though, if we need a game-changer he could be it. Absolute baller when on form, not totally sold on his attitude at times though. Also I guess we should have enough creativity from elsewhere.

Ward-Prowse I think gives a bit of balance to the squad, he's the best on dead-balls and the likes of Kane and DCL should thrive on his delivery. He can also sit a bit deeper than some, one of the issues is we have a lot of creative attacking midfielders, but not much lying deeper.

Im not sure Maddison catches either. As for Ward Prowse, you cant take a player just for his set pieces especially when there is players in the squad who have a proven track record for eg Trent from dead balls.

Too soon for Alli but he's actually looked pretty decent from what I've seen in the few games he's played since Mason has been manager. Played well yesterday for example.

Hes got a bit too much of a Jack Sparrow look going on at the moment for my tastes.

I would say that this is one of the better teams we have had for a long time honestly. There are so many players to choose from and you can either look at that as a bad thing because the team isn't settled or you can look at it as a good thing because there are so many players in good form.

Yeah agreed I actually think this is one of the best squads we've had for a long, long time. Young talent coming through with some experience in the likes of Kane.

Obviously the big concern is defensively, but providing Southgate let's the shackles off we shouldn't have a problem getting at teams.

2018 squad had the likes of Welbeck and Phil Jones IIRC. Saying that, super Danny might be in this one yet :p

There's reports today that Southgate's not going to pick Trent. I may not watch any of the euros this summer (I probably will actually but only because there's nothing else on) and I'm all for Liverpool players having a summer off but that would be one of the worst decisions made by an England manager in my lifetime, probably the worst actually. Alongside Kane, Trent is the only truly world class player England have. I'm not sure if something has happened behind the scenes or if Southgate is just mental.

It's pretty baffling, even if he's not making the first 11 (he should), he's more than good enough to be in the squad.

With someone like Kane up front, surely you want someone who can cross brilliantly.

He's just a lying, incompetent **** that needs booting ASAP.

All of the talk when he joined was about picking form players but he's gone back on that with just about every squad selection. I'd rather see England do well than not but I'd also rather no Liverpool players went to the Euros and got injured.

Then frankly he's an idiot.

I'd be very, very surprised if Southgate didn't take Trent.

Probably the best delivery of a ball from the right hand side if you want to play him offensively. As above, I'd be baffled if he didn't take him.

Maybe he's been asked not to include him because he could do with a break and we'll probably bomb out in the groups anyway, given expectations will be high following a semi final appearance in the WC :p

Our weakest area is going to be defence so I full expect Southgate to play really conservatively and limp out of the Euros with a couple of weak results. Honestly, when was the last time a defensive team won the Euros or WC. Greece?
