He can't play wide or else he'd still be a Liverpool player. I have to admit, I forgot about him, he may have just made it into my squad.
 
I think Ings could work as an option to sub out Kane at 60 minutes but beyond that, I don't really see a place for him - he's not going to start ahead of Kane, he doesn't play wider roles as you say. Even as the backup striker, I think Southgate will play others ahead of him anyway - DCL, Abraham, Watkins.

Ward-Prowse occupies a similar standing - he's good and I think makes a reasonable case for being in the squad as a versatile utility player but ultimately there are too many others that sit above him for it to be likely to see him in the squad.
 
It shows how mad that Trent story is when we have fans of various teams in this forum all putting him at least in the squad. The redcafe thread also says he should be in.

More worrying the fact everyone has forgotten about Trippier who Southgate is going to pick :p
To be fair though, he has won La Liga, I literally have no idea how he has done over there but if we want a back four then Southgate is going to choose defensive qualities over attacking.

Trippier is floating under the radar as hardly anyone sees him play these days. UK exposure to La Liga these days is dreadfully poor due to the paywall.
 
I'd like to Southgate go for it against some the weaker sides, something like this would be cool

Announced today then....well sort of. Looks like it'll be a 30 man provisional squad then cut to 26.

Just name the squad like everyone else has.
 
Looking forward to combusting when he names Dier, I can taste it already.

Other countries have named pretty big provisional squads so I'm not surprised Southgate is going to do the same.

I’d like to think Dunk or White will get included in the 30, Brighton ‘only’ conceded 46 goals in the prem which is up there with the better teams!

Knowing Southgate though he’ll just take Dier as a defender and I’ll cry inside.

Given he only really needs to worry about taking 2 strikers, given he'll play Kane in every game unless his legs literally fall off, it wouldn't be surprising to see about 15 defenders in Southgate's squad :p

But not TAA. Bizarrely. I’d be playing Trippier or Chilwell LB and Trent RB every day.
