England Squad Announced

Glen Johnson is fine. It means Richards can move into centreback.

Bit worried that past Cahill we don't have any decent players with experience there. Jagielka would have made a difference (injured?)

Looking at that squad it's dawned on me for the first time that we're not very good. With the exception of Lampard, Terry and Wilshere there's no obvious improvements that can be made to that squad.

We've got no quality strikers (other than Rooney) and nobody obvious emerging and without Terry we look incredibly fragile at CB.

Yep, finally you get it :p

Year after year we blame the managers but they obviously come in, look at the quality of the english players to replace these 'stars' are realize they are screwed.

I mean Cahill, poor season, poor form, average player and he gets it in the squad for what reason? Pick him last year fair enough, on form full of confidence. Baines has been average this year as well.

Young and Walcott too have no place in the side and lets not even bother getting started on the midfielders playing for city. Downing is almost as comical as carlton palmer getting a run out.

Quite possibly the worst bunch of midfielders players put out for the lol's.

Think its harsh comparing Young to Walcott - Young may not be a Ronaldo or Giggs , but he is a useful squad member to have for England (if he keeps fit)

Bit of a meh squad as a whole, although I look forward to seeing a few (younger) players pull on an England shirt to see how they get on

A brief summary of Pearce's press-conference:

- He'll happily take England to the Euros but not beyond that as he's not developed enough as a coach yet. No idea whether he's being considered though.
- He's treating the game as a chance to see how a few youngsters cope with being in the squad and manage against a side like Holland with the Euros in mind. Don't read anything into the likes of Lampard being left out in regards to the Euros; he knows everything he needs to know about him already.
- He'll pick his captain after seeing the squad train together.

Hes done very well at the press conf so far, saying the right things, refreshing.

He's saying all the WRONG things. Leaving Lampard out because "he knows him" is entirely the wrong thing. He needs a settled and PRACTICED squad, nothing more or less, testing players right up to the Euro's = insta fail.

What happened when we played around with our CB partnership in the games leading up to the Euro's then it fell apart straight away as we went with an untested pair as soon as King was injured?

If Lampard is to play in the world cup, he should play in EVERY friendly till then. He's our god damned play maker, maybe the single most important position on the pitch, so we have a chance to get ready for the cup and get a team working together, and you leave out one of the main pieces.

I know what Lampard can do, I know how he plays, and I won't learn anything new seeing Lampard play. It's not about seeing Lampard, its about giving, in this instance Cleverley time on the pitch WITH Lampard to see how Cleverley and Lampard play together.

At this point I'd go for Wilshire over Cleverley if it was a choice of one or the other, chances of him being fit and in form are slim though. Cleverley/Parker/Lampard would make a pretty damn good midfield.

Worthless going into the Euro finals with those two having maybe never played a game together(can't remember if they've had some minutes together in a previous game). That midfield trio could be utterly crucial to how we do in the Euro's, and yet, we pass up another chance to let them practice with each other, instead giving Barry another chance to show how utterly worthless he is.

Hart
Johnson - Richards - Cahill - Baines
Gerrard - Parker - Barry - Young
Rooney - Bent

I suppose it's not bad, but there's no quality on the bench.

Baines hasn't had an outstanding scoring season, still a solid left back.

Young has no place in the team? He's been BY FAR England's best player since he became first team over a year ago, scoring and assisting more(afaik) than anyone else, top scorer, top assister in the team...... but has no place in the team, sure, makes perfect sense.

We aren't going to compete in the Euro's with the squad we took to the last world cup anyway so we might as well write this comp off (Cappello should have gone after the world cup) and mess about with the squad till we find a decent team that we can compete in the next world cup with.

We need to manage our expectations realistically as this is not a world beating squad and one that does not deserve to be ranked 5th in the world above both Brazil and Italy

oh well, we'll never get to see lennon and walker link up in an england shirt.

i'm obviously a bit blinkered but cahill in and dawson not? no defoe either?

i best stop, i'm starting to sound like i'm bothered

tbh i'd normally agree with that, but this isn't so much a friendly as a warm up game for the euro's.

if it was against a poorer/weaker team i might just be able to take him giving the youngsters a game, but this is against the dutch who are likely to be around the semi final stages come the euro's.

you can leave rooney out cos he's not playing at the start, but if lampard etc are going to figure in the euros they need the playing time together.

Dawson's had seven games, this year, according to Wikipedia . I know Campbell's hardly had any games, but meh, it's worth seeing how he handles being in an England squad, I guess.

so? he's better and more experienced than cahill

defoe is also better than campbell and welbeck

Looks somewhat promising. Some new names there - Hope that continues when he picks the Euro squad.

We need some fresh blood, talented, of course.
