England V India ***Clash of the Heavyweights*** Test, T20 and ODI Series

That's embarrassing :p

There really is though, I mean to be in contention for the national side you need to have a bowling average of like 20 or batting of 80+. You only have to look at the likes of Onions and Panesar when they're playing for their counties to see how much they dominate.

I was joking but you're absolutely right, except the figures you quoted are wrong ;)

The ICC totally agree with my theory of Sangakkara being the best wicketkeeper-batsman. :D

ICC Test Team of the Year

Alastair Cook (Eng)
Hashim Amla (SA)
Jonathan Trott (Eng)
Sachin Tendulkar (Ind)
Kumar Sangakkara (SL – wicketkeeper/captain)
AB de Villiers (SA)
Jacques Kallis (SA)
Stuart Broad (Eng)
Graeme Swann (Eng)
Dale Steyn (SA)
James Anderson (Eng)
Zaheer Khan (Ind) (12th man)

How does Bell not make that list though? He's averaging nearly 100 for the last 12 months.

5 Eng players make test team of the year! :D Feel sorry for Bell for not making it though, he's been immense over the last 12 months.

Team:

Alastair Cook (England)
Hashim Amla (South Africa)
Jonathan Trott (England)
Sachin Tendulkar (India)
Kumar Sangakkara (Sri Lanka - wicketkeeper/captain)
AB de Villiers (South Africa)
Jacques Kallis (South Africa)
Stuart Broad (England)
Graeme Swann (England)

Dale Steyn (South Africa)
James Anderson (England)

-edit-
Beaten :( Still strongly disagree about Sangakkara, he doesn't even keep in tests anymore afaik?
Otherwise - Tendulkar is a question mark considering form in the last 12 months (good but not spectacular, and then massively abused by England)
Sangakkara i've already mentioned.
And AB over Bell? ..hmm
Kallis, Swann, Steyn and Anderson are thumbs up though

A good point in the follow-up article in the Guardian:

If we're going on some form that doesn't include the India series, what's Broad doing in there?

Twenty20 squad: Stuart Broad (capt), Ravi Bopara, Tim Bresnan, Jos Buttler, Jade Dernbach, Steven Finn, Alex Hales, Craig Kieswetter (wk), Eoin Morgan, Samit Patel, Kevin Pietersen, Ben Stokes, Graeme Swann

ODI squad: Alastair Cook (capt), James Anderson, Ian Bell, Ravi Bopara, Tim Bresnan, Stuart Broad, Jade Dernbach, Steven Finn, Craig Kieswetter (wk), Eoin Morgan, Samit Patel, Ben Stokes, Graeme Swann, Jonathan Trott

Anyone want to guess the 11? heh.
