England V India ***Clash of the Heavyweights*** Test, T20 and ODI Series

Lot of people (England fans mainly) have been complaining that Duckworth Lewis favours the chasing team, as England have lost a few matches while defending when this rule has been used.

India looked set to get their first win of the series. That's life though, today the weather decided to deal India a crap hand.

Also Nasser and co really need to stfu about DRS, especially after the technology that has been lauded by them was once again contradicted in decision making.

Having 8 players out (6 of them key players) hasn't helped either.

I feel sorry for Egon as well - he missed out what would surely have been a riveting contest.

Yes, it was shaping up to be a fascinating game. The optimist in me was saying Trott and Bell can see us through this (Trott was looking good early on). However the realist in me said we were dealt a lucky hand with the rain!

I have to say the atmosphere was outstanding. I would guess that 1/3 of the crowd were Indian and they were all mixed in with the English spectators. It was all very light hearted with both sets of fans really getting in the mood. There was a lot of colour and noise with plenty of flags, costumes, chanting and music; they made it very clear just how much they love their cricket and how crazy they are about their team. It really was great to see. :)

They also had the Champions Mace there, it was nice to see England's name engraved there.... just after India's ;) I'm guessing the Durham crowd will have been some of the first people to see it. :)

I agree 100% with you on the Dravid dismissal, nobody in the ground could understand it and after seeing the replay on Sky I still don't get it, but there you go, that's cricket.

Rain stopped play at about 3pm, we ended up sticking around until 5:30, twice it looked like they were coming back on only for it to start raining again just as the covers came off. But at least with a nearly empty ground we could go round to the players pavilion and get a look at in on them, it was nice to see some of them chatting to fans and signing autographs. The Indian fans absolutely worship Dhoni :D

All in all, despite the lack of result, it was still a good day :)

Just reading the Rose Bowl website and it says that they do not allow people to bring in bottles! Surely they can't stop you from taking water in?

Says the same @ Edgbaston, but apparently it relates to glass and 'hard plastic'. Normal water should be fine (but don't quote me on that! lol)

In other news - The BCCI have demanded ESPN remove english pundits from their coverage of the Eng v India games..
Not going to say any more, it will only end in another argument with TC =( and i don't wanna do that.

Hey mate, debates are what we're here to do :)

Although not at the moment, I'm fuming. Sachin out of the rest of the tour. That's 8 injuries now. :(

Sigma you should be able to bring water in.

Can I also keep the rain water out? :D

Stay away rain, stay the **** away!

The website just states 'bottles', no mention of the type; clear as mud. We're taking water anyway.

Oh dear, I really can't get over how low the BCCI have come. Making demands of TV companies? Can you imagine the ECB telling Sky or ESPN to remove Indian pundits from future coverage?

The excellent Dileep Premachandran has written a blog on how the BCCI have behaved with the media:

Yeah, great article that :)
The BCCI should just be glad its only Nasser (and occasional Bumble) on ESPN's coverage, imagine the outcome had Sir Ian been one of the english pundits ;)

It's just hit home that sachin is injured. I am gutted. I don't want to sound like a whiny emo but everything is going wrong at the moment. :(

Also the bcci needs to shut up. Some things, like scheduling and drs resistance I agree with, but keep the commentators. Not everyone agrees with them but not everyone agrees with shahstri either, brilliant pundit though he is.

Yep its a real shame. Cant believe India has had such a run of bad luck with injuries.

edit: Only just noticed you have changed Tendulkar to Dravid in your sig :)

Whats this about scheduling? imo, the BCCI can't complain one iota about the international schedule when they prioritise a non ICC event like the IPL over pretty much everything else.

The forecast for today is bad. I doubt whether we'll see any play before lunch.

Lunch? its a day/night game isn't it? it starts at lunch :p

But yeah i think i get what you mean, play before 5 looks impossible.

Going to the bad Hawk Eye decision in the Australia game, its creators said that there was less then 40cm of travel between pitching and impact, so the tracking could be unreliable as it proved in this case.

There should have been a less then 40cm warning, amber light, telling the umpire not to rely on the tech in this instance, but 'we are under instruction from them' (presuming them to be the ICC?) not to include the less then 40cm warning.
Last part is madness.

Latest start can be at 19:20 and then a twenty over match. Lol when it stops raining we'll have strong winds. You can't win.

No, the BCCI apparently schedules too much cricket for India. I personally think that India plays a good amount of cricket. 3-4 tours in a year is about right imo.
