England V India ***Clash of the Heavyweights*** Test, T20 and ODI Series

After all the Indian fan on here had to say about how they are number 1 and we are number 3, we are now the number 1 test team in the world unless the Indians find a miracle and win the last 2 matches. Plus if they don't and we win this series 4-0 it reverses, putting us at number 1 and them down at number 3 behind South Africa.

That will teach them for complaining constantly and refusing to allow LBW's to be reviewed.

A deserved win for England after India's failings with practically everything.

One man who needs to take a look at himself is Dhoni after failing so pathetically. Poor captaincy, poor wicket keeping, poor batting.

It's gone downhill for India since having a new Coach. I still don't know why they chose Fletcher over someone like Fleming for instance but that's a topic for another day :o :p

This isn't Cricinfo, so you can be tactful if you'd like :p

Who was that? I believe some were saying they don't deserve to be number 1 but could be wrong.

The DRS thing is a load of tripe. Most indian fans are against it for sure. I hope a few more decisions go against them too so they look even more silly. They being the Indian board.

Bit harsh - Fletcher hasn't had the chance to do anything yet - he's come in and had to take a team to tour what is probably the most difficult country they could play in right now, with only 1 warmup game and a load of his players unfit/burnt out from IPL/World Cup etc.

Amazing win though, the highest ever margin of victory by a side with a first innings deficit. Amazing to think we were 120-8 on day one!

So I've just read up on all the articles about the Bell thing. How dozy can someone get! and how comes there wasn't any interviews of Strauss and Bell yesterday?

Shame Zaheer couldn't play, that definitely would have helped India's embarassing batting. Their tail begins around #6. Was hoping for more of a challenge from this series :(.

What would have helped them is having Gambhir and Sehwag. Mukund is terrible, I just checked his recent figures and he was beyond awful in the Caribbean.

They also probably underestimated Englands bowling in there home conditions as most of them aren't used to here. World Cup in India > IPL in India > Tests in Windies.

Caffrey: It's gone downhill since they decide to play so much Cricket that is different to English conditions and resting players for Test matches before major tours. They do need a different Captain for Test matches, Dhoni is only good for ODI's.

So yeah, can't wait to see a whitewash!

What did they say?

I haven't read anything about it in the media yet, but Boycott sounded as if he wanted to string Bell up from a lamppost for making a schoolboy error.

Here is Bell on BBC

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cricket/14359723.stm

England centurion Ian Bell has admitted to being naive and "a bit stupid" in the incident in which he was run out, and later reinstated, in the second Test against India at Trent Bridge.
"Looking back, it was probably a bit naive on my part to automatically walk off but the right decision has been made for the good of the game," he said.
"I put my bat down after the third run and it looked like we were just meandering off for tea.
"Turning around, the umpire took his jumper out and started to walk towards the bowler and it all just looked like it was going towards tea. We were both a bit shocked, we didn't really realise what had happened until we were halfway off.
"I didn't know until the last minute that I would be going back out again but the way it's been handled has been fantastic and in the spirit of the game.
"I've learned a lot of lessons. I won't ever do that again."

At the time i thought it was handled quite badly by the umpires, but looking back i think they did everything right and it probably was mainly Bell's fault. Though they could have used common sense at the time and seen that Bell was not looking to go for another run, that was the main issue for me.

Would be an interesting series if it were being played in India but England in our own conditions with the ball swinging and crowd support are close to unbeatable imo unless they're having a bad day at the office.

To be honest, atm if i was to create a world eleven i think there would be a lot of England players in or around it.
I would think that Cook, Pietersen, Trott, Prior, Broad, Swann and Anderson would be pretty close.

Broad would on this series but he's so frustrating, he'll go through long spells of being absolute dog**** and nearly getting dropped, have a brief amazing peiod to suggest he could be a very, very good player, and then goes back to being pony again.

Bell was interviewed straight after the days play sky yesterday. Strauss was asked about it today during presentations. Dhoni was interviewed after also and was genuinely sincere when he said that the Indian team were 100% behind it and they had wanted to feel good about their day and couldn't have had the decision stood.

He got a massive SO from the remaining crowd for it.

Also the Indian support never waiverd all day, stayed in excellent humour all day and were v.funny at times.

Cook, Sehwag, Trott, KP, Kallis, Bell, Prior, Broad / Morkel (depending which Broad turns up), Steyn, Swann, Anderson

And no, I'm not being overly bias to the England team :p although Cook's form has dipped a bit.

Sangakara over Prior imo.

Edit - no Jayawardene?

KP over Tendulkar???

Depends on your terms of why you pick who.
Prior's been > everyone as a WK/batsman in test matches for 12 months now.

Jayawardene's been completely out of form too, so i can't include him in my dream team at the moment.

4 months ago i wouldn't be able to pick KP either.

KP over Sachin because, frankly, KP's been the better player in the last 4-6 months or so.

If the question was "Out of all the players playing right now, imagine all of them are at their peaks, what would your world 11 be?" it would look much different.

Broad really is a big game player though. I would definitely look to fit him into the England team, even if he was in bad form.

I am starting to become an Anderson fan now as well. I vividly remember his first test series for England with all of the commentators sying he was too unreliable to play for Engalnd and that his attitude was questionable. Over the last 10 years he has been incredibly consistent though. I'm not sure i would completely rely on him as our main strike bowler, but in conjunction with a real class fast bowler i think he's excellent

I love Michael Clarke when he's in form, no idea what he's up to at the moment but when he's playing well his footwork is absolutely dreamy.
