England V India ***Clash of the Heavyweights*** Test, T20 and ODI Series

India have been nothing short of a disgrace in this match. Pathetic batting, sluggish bowling and fielding that an under-12s team would be ashamed of. Admittedly England have made the most of the situation but to say this series has been a let down is a massive understatement.

Some interesting discussions on TMS. Aggers and Boycs saying that basically they wonder whether the Indian players are disinterested in Test Cricket because they earn much more money in the IPL, so don't have the motivation anymore

There are similarities with the England national footy team tbh, why exhaust/injure themselves trying hard for their country when they earn mega £££ in the IPL.

I've certainly got the impression that India just don't give a ****, they more or less threw in the towel on the first day of this 3rd test.

I was going to make this comparison too. Not necessarily regarding the money but also the fact that there don't appear to be too many young guns being given chances.

India is huge! Are you telling me that this is the best team they can produce for test cricket?

It certainly looks like there is no fight in the team, the grit they showed to win the World Cup just isn't there for test matches.

But we must not forget that this is(was) the number 1 test team in the world! The way that they have played in this series, looking completely uninterested, would suggest to me that something has changed quite recently.

It could just about realistically be down to form in terms of specific bowling/batting performances, but their general conduct in the series so far indicates that there is something fundamentally wrong in the Indian game to me

Not many of the current lineup would be short of money though?

I think it's just complacency mainly. No reason to get fit if you are guaranteed a place.

Statistically yeah, I posted a good article a few pages back which explained how India became number one. I think they played and won something like 5 series at home, 3 against Bangladesh, the only real notable thing they did was draw against SA.

Boycott said it best when he said everyone is disappointed with India's performance. Their lack of preparation shows how much they value this series really. If you can't get motivated for a number 1 showdown, what can you get motivated for? IPL I guess.

No because they don't go down fighting. It's just another spineless performance.
You know, almost immediately after I posted, I thought that too.

At least when we were skittling the Aussies all round their yard, they still fought, and even managed to win a test fairly convincingly. I'm actually starting to hope that India fight back now, because it's just been all too easy so far.

Oh great. I was enjoying England's dominance. Now I'm all depressed at it being the death knell of test cricket.

Way to lighten my Friday morning, guys!

;)

Unfortunately this is what happens when TV gets a hold of a sport. On one hand the injection of money is what makes it so good, but on the other hand you get two half assed series of four tests instead of a proper summer of a 5 test series spread out over a period of time that allows the teams proper recuperation. In addition to which less international cricket means both teams can prepare properly, and players don't get injured as much.
