If Lennon adapts to the left wing role it will only make him more valuable to England, but it's pretty clear he should start on the right, he is figuratively head and shoulders above everyone else in the position. The problem is the left side is still a major weak point, where his versatility could come in handy.

Jol tried him on the left back in the day but he is far more effective on his natural side, but he does cut inside very effectively from the left.

Every teams capable of playing badly (Look at spain lastnight), england are no different.
Its the medias fault every tourney - they over hype england to the extreme, expectations get sky-high and then we have a bad performance = slagging off the team/players.

Now, if Spain can bearly scrape a win against the minnows of international football with the quality in their team .. puts todays game into perspective.

England are far from the best team internationally, but they have a chance just like all the other 'top' 10 teams.

Thats exactly what will happen yet again in the coming world cup. We will comfortably top our Group and the media will starting screaming that we are going to win the world cup and we are going to be champions and so on...then the moment we play a top 10 ranked side we will get knocked out.

People often beat on Liverpool fans reminding them time and again that Liverpool fans should accept that they are just an average team, the same applies to England tbh, we get some good results here and there and then believe that we are better than we are.

I will be cheering us on in the WC (as well as Spain and Greece hehe) but I will also be keeping my feet firmly on the ground in the knowledge that we will need a phenomenal amount of luck if we are to win it and maybe a sight impaired referee or two :D

We are not a top ten team the sooner we realise this the better our expectations are way too high for our limited players.Don't care what rankings say we are not a top 10 side.

Between 10-20 yes.

I think we are at least a top 10 team but to actually win the WC you need to be better than that as it's not like the Euros when a Greece can win it.
Historically you have to be top 4 to win (Germany, Italy, Brazil, Argentina) or have an exceptional generation like France did.
We're not bad, but not bad has never won the WC.

I think winning the World Cup has more to it then having a good squad, its the mind frame, the winning mentality, the mind set that you are there to win and you will win, not that you "can" win.

It won the Euros for Greece though, we can't even do that :(

Agree with that , I think we all know in a one off game against any team in the world you would always fancy our chances.

When it comes to tournament football that self belief seems be sadly lacking. Our media definately don't help matters either.

Lets see just what Capello is made of , can he instill belief in the players or are they just bothered about their next paycheck ?

England played badly and won - that's got to be a good sign as previously in WC we've played good and ended up losing (penalties) ;)

It was a shame we didn't see A. Johnson or Parker come on today - cannot really see the point of putting players in the squad of 30 and then not letting them get at least a half.

I fear that Capello will take the usual under-performing, unfit/injury prone players that litter the England squad.

Ledley king should not be in the team. His knee will give in and we'll instantly be down a player.

Lennon, this guy is a headless chicken. He hasn't a clue what to do. The only thing going through his brain when he recieves the ball is 'Run' and 'flap arms like a chicken'. That's it. He's terrible. I'd take SWP over Lennon but sadly I don't even rate SWP as a winger.

I agree with Nogimmix in the sense that Capello will take the same old players, regardless of their current form and leave out players who haven't been given a fair chance.

I'd love there to be a shock call up for Johnson, being a Boro fan.

If I was capello, I'd drop the following :
Green : Not as good performance as Joe Hart over the past few months.
Ledley King : His Knee is too risky.
Huddlestone : Don't see what all the fuss is about him, seems a bit of a hot head. Ok he scored a nice goal once.
Lennon : Headless chicken, never delivers a good cross, can't defend for toffee
Heskey : Too old, goes down too easy for his size, hasn't been playing regularly.
Glen Johnson : Poor performances, always passes the ball back to the keeper, switches off mentally too often.
Michael Carrick : He's too slow, offers less than Lampard/Barry/Gerrard who all play a similar roll. Slows the pace of the game down too much.

So where would you place us and what 10 to 20 teams would you put in before England?

Green won't be dropped because we have to take three keepers.

I think Dawson, Upson, Warnock, Carrick, A. Johnson, Walcott and Bent should make way.

we are currently 8th according to fifa rankings.

http://www.fifa.com/worldfootball/r...r=m/fullranking.html#confederation=0&rank=193

and if there are 2 teams that i would be concerned about which are above us then it would be spain and brazil. all others can be beaten imo. fabio was testing yesterday as well so i wouldn't pin anything on yesterdays performance.

heskey and huddlestone should be dropped for walcott and bent to go imo.
