England v Pakistan **spoilers**

Aye looks like Pakistan have forfited the game!!

Never seen anything like it in cricket before! Gonna rumble on for some time this is.

what is shocking is the absolute lack of communication on all levels here, the crowd are clueless, we're clueless, the pundits are clueless. Wheres some info off the umpires, 4th official etc etc etc.

Looks like the Pakistians have spat their dummy out.

The umpires followed the rules; the seam of the ball had been raised. Whether this was from wear & tear or from cheating who knows. But it was clear that the ball suddenly began to swing a lot. A ball simply doesn't go from keeping straight to swinging the way it was in the space of a couple of overs.

It is odd, the lack of communication is odd, maybe they don't know what's going on, or don't want to tell people the wrong thing then correct themselves.

It would be bad for pakistan to forfeit the match for england too, it'd take the shine off a good series, for pakistan it'd be a shame, they series has been played in good spirit and despite missing their best bowlers they've given a good acount of themselves.

It's very odd, i imagine it'd be difficult for pakistan to come back on and win this now. that said, it's somewhat good they're taking a moral stand if they believe they've been wrongly accused

thats overly simple, it depends on conditions, you can get very sudden swing in the right situation. i wouldn't say because you get sudden swing either way that it's indication of cheating, you'd need to see further evidence

I cant see how they can come back out today (by the time this has been sorted they've got to give England time to sort their heads out as well by which time it'll be well late) so they might as well tell the crowd they can go home.

this is the most amazing cricket footage ive ever seen

this could have massive consequences for the sport!

It's interesting, i'm not criticising pakistan but i couldn't see this happening with a side like england, SA etc...maybe australia but i don't know. it's bizarre...

pakistan coming out but no sign of umpires just yet and just a minute ago colly didnt seem ready to go out, was just sitting on the balcony.

Edit: Batsmen ready but rumours of umpires refusing to come out.

Wellthis is very odd indeed. Maybe the umpires have said its over. Sky keep mentioning Hare, maybe Doctrove and the match referee are all refusinig to carry the game on.

But they was no change in the conditions whatsoever when the ball went from keeping straight to swinging a lot. And the fact that the umpires decided to inspect the ball does point to the ball being damaged in some way. Whether it was from someone lifting the seam or general damaged remains to be seen.

Yes, but given the right conditions throughout the day it's plausible for the ball to start swinging reasonably suddenly. The actions taken mean the umpires ruled it was altered delibrately in violation of the rules. My point was you said

A ball simply doesn't go from keeping straight to swinging the way it was in the space of a couple of overs.

and thats not strictly true, it can happen at the right ground, right weather, age of ball and the right bowler. in this case it looks dodgy but that it starts swinging suddenly is not evidence of anything

Dont buy that mate, the ball started swinging for England 'suddenly', it can and does happen once the ball gets older, in todays day and age the cameras would, for sure have spotted someone doctored the ball. Anyway surely if darrel hair was checking the ball as he was meant to be after every ball/over then he would have seen man made tampering. From the pics the seam was fine, more th part of the ball seemed to be scuffed damaged.

This has soured an otherwise very well mannered series, even the supporters have behaved!

There won't be any more play today anyway, as the light is pretty poor, but I also think that the umpires have considered the match over when the Pakistan players didn't come out on time.

I can also see the one dayers being cancelled now as well.

Crazy situation!
I can understand them being aggrieved at being accused of ball tampering but refusing to continue the game is just a childish way of protesting.
Darrel Hair loves a bit of controversy;)
