England v Pakistan **spoilers**

Been sitting there watching the events unfold since 4.45. Quite something isnt it? We are not even certain yet whether pakistan cheated or not. I mean it looks as though by their actions that they didnt, but the umpire has not spoken, or shed light on his evidence.

This is getting ridiculous now. No communication about whats going on, pathetic! Means all discussion now is hypothetical as we don't know all the facts (like umpires opinions).

Paul Sheldon hasn't discounted there being play tomorrow, but I can't see that happening with Hair umpiring, so they'd have to replace him, which would be wrong if he has a valid case.

I feel for the Pakistanis, especially as there's no tv evidence of any tampering, but the umpire's must have seen something, because they I doubt that they would have changed the ball otherwise, knowing what the outcome would have been if it was only a hunch.

Sky Sports News reporting that the match has been called off.

Bad day for cricket and the farcical hokey cokey we had with the players/umpires going in and out made everyone look foolish.

Definately havent heard the last of this.

Bob Willis and Botham keep mentioning Pietersen smacked it into the stands a couple of times which could scuff it but didnt both his 6's come after the ball was replaced?

Can only assume now that it was treated as refusal to play so the match should be given to England.

Hare's gotta of seen something or seen a severe deterioration of a particular spot on the ball. The two umpires couldn't have done what they did without something like that.

KP's sixes were after they changed the ball (against the lad who got him out too I think), which oddly didn't spin as much as the original so he had the confidence to do it.
The PCB head reckons they said they were only going to stay indoors for a few minutes then go out & play. I'd imagine even if that was the case they still breached rules :/

dont quite belive that PCB bloke. They made their protest after tea. Then there was plenty of time before the umpires came out the second time. Even after that it wasnt for quite some time that the pakistan players made their token appearence to go onto the pitch.

It was 15 mins inbetween the first and 2nd appearance of the umpires and as the umpires came out the 2nd time and when they did come out the 2nd time Akmal came out and read the paper for a bit so they wern't just getting ready as he said.

Then it was a further 27 minutes before they eventually came out. So if they were ready to play after the first little protest why did it take them the 15 mins and then a further 27 mins to get out there?!

Edit: Everywhere says test is off apart from cricinfo who say theyre hearing it could still be on.

It's a shame that the umpires weren't willing to be flexible and let the game carry on into its fifth day, given that by all accounts both teams wanted to put it behind them and get on with things.

It's all been somewhat childish. Pakistan should have just carried on with the game -- if they wanted to protest they should have done so at the end of the day, and by lodging a complaint to the match referee and whoever else would listen. I can understand that they were annoyed and upset by the decision, but sitting in your dressing room sulking doesn't win you any friends. Apparently it loses you test matches!

After that, the umpires (specifically Darrell Hair) should have used some sense and allowed the game to carry on. Yes, what Pakistan did (regarding the protest) was wrong, but England were willing to continue and so should the umpires have been.

All in all, a sad day for test cricket.

Pakistan involved in a ball tampering incident, this is completely unheard of and goes completely against their tradition. What would have Sarfraz Nawaz, Imran Khan, Wasim and Waqar thought of this  :(

hehe ;) But seriously that umpire sure does know how to create problems. Pakistan and India have both in the past complained and asked for him not to umpire their matches. To make a decision like that is pretty major in this day and age because unlike the ball tampering scandal when Wasim and Waqar were accused they have so many cameras that if it has happened they WILL have it on tape. So far they have found nothing to suggest they done anything so Hair is gonna look pretty damn silly if they can't produce video evidence of it. I also hope the Pakistani players haven't done anything either but I wouldn't put it past them either. I do think the umpire could have been a bit more diplomatic and just changed the ball as he thought it was damaged and told the match referee what he suspected and if they were caught on camera then do em.

You are right, the ball was changed in the 55th over and his 6s came in the 62nd and 63rd over.

for all this, the actual ball tampering wasn't so important, the 5 runs and replacement ball probably didn't have a huge impact on the game. Whatever they did or didn't do then, when they refused to take the field again they technically forfeited the rules and although you can understand why it's not appropriate for teams to hold the officials to ransom by not coming out. it just looked a bit messy

I for one am glad Pakistan took that stand when they did. Had they just carried on quietly people would be saying well they didnt seem to bothered about being called cheaters, they were quick to just carry on with the game etc. If the game continued and say Pakistan actually WON, I would have loved to hear what people would have been saying then!

No, i'm glad they made their stand when they did, now something HAS to be done. I wish could say im 100% certain that no one was tampering with the ball but we will have wait and see what comes out. But what a suprise that fat useless waste of space Darrell Hair is right in the centre of it again  I remember the last series I saw Pakistan playing, when they had the same umpire, he made some absolute shockers of decisions. Hes a blatant cheat, I said it in here then and il say it now.

"We are going to make it clear to the International Cricket Council that we are not going to play under the supervision of Hair in any future matches," said Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Shaharyar Khan.

About time!

This is what will get the one dayers called off if Inzi gets banned for cheating then the Pakistanis will spit their dummy and go home.

Especially if they dont have any cast iron proof that someone tamperered with that ball.
