England v Pakistan **spoilers**

By that time you should be 60NO and seeing it well enough not to care ;)

You can throw it against an old track, but not a concrete wall? The difference is so minor (remember, for 6 runs you can have it hit against a wall legally), that I dont see the real issue. So long as you do not come equipped - and do not develop a cheating thumbnail, then I think there is a case to allow a bit of both.

Damn you pointing out the inadequecies of my batting! ;)

Basically i think the game is too dominated by the bat and more ball movement would help even things out. But it's difficult to define such things as coming equipped and if you allow it, after the first over there's going to be some bowler madly picking at the seam, which is going beyond evening it up.

I blame the pitches to be honest, particularly in this country, there's no reason for the production of rock hard pitches that you could bat on for 3 weeks. Given the right pitch we'd see lower scoring games and more results.

That said, if the batsmen all fall over trying to play the spinners and it's over in 3 days then theres less money in it for the host counties...always the money...

EDIT: and yeah, hair is far from the bad guy, *providing* they were cheating and it can be proved. If it comes out that pakistan weren't guilty of that (they're obviously guilty on the bring the game into disrepute really) then he's going to look mighty stupid and people are going to ask why he said/thought they were, maybe it's an honest mistake, maybe something else

Letter from Hair says:

He's prepared to retire, stand down or relinquish his position as it will cause the ICC embarrassment if he carries on, but they must deposit $500K in his account without telling anyone & just saying he's retired as a lifestyle change.
He says it's a one off non-negotiable offer.

The way it's worded I don't think they can sack him, but there's no way he can continue, so he's shot himself in the foot.

"ICC chief executive Malcolm Speed told a news conference in London that the umpire had been under great stress.

And he said he was satisfied Hair had not made the offer with any "dishonest, underhand or malicious intent"

Talk about shooting yourself in the foot!

Regardless of his stress levels or what his intentions were he's totally discredited himself in the whole affair and I honestly cant see how he can continue as an international umpire at all.

Whats even more shocking is the ICC have come out and grassed one their guys up!! You'd think they would have kept this well under their hat as it makes one of their umpires look very bad.

The PCB will surely use this against any decision that may be made against them.

They've already used it before any disciplinary decision:

"This makes a strong case for us to be cleared," team manager Zaheer Abbas told the BBC Asian Network
"This also proves our protest on the fourth day of the final Test was legitimate," he said.

"This is a moral victory for us, and it's good that now this issue can reach its conclusion"
Unfortunately some will fall for that, maybe the public & media but not the ICC as Malcolm Speed has pretty much said that he thought Hair was trying to find a solution that was best for the game.

I'd go for a Pakistan win myself. Not a 100% sure on Bell opening in 20-20 myself but maybe they want someone to bat through the innings with stroke players around him.

50-4. 2 players out trying to play daft dabs down to 3rd man.

Stuart Broad was on a hat trick but him getting Shoaib Malik and Younis Khan out had brought Afridi in who's giving England a right spanking!!

21 runs so far off 1 Saj Mahmood over

If he's on his game in the one dayers England gonna get slaughtered as he's a class apart in this sort of game.

edit: he's just hit a 6 so far it was last seen going down the M5 :p

We really are a long way behind the major teams when it comes to any shortened version of the game it seems, fair enough in the 50 over games as most teams have played more than us but we invented the 20/20 version for Gods sake  :(
Broad looked promising though.
Gough showed some of his old enthusiasm, I hope he gets a crack in the OD's coming up, I think he's still got something to offer:)

We are shocking at the one day form of the game. I dont think its suprising the newer players seem to do well in the team. People like Dalrymple, broad, gough etc all play a lot of limited overs for their counties. The central contract players only really play the internetional series. It could literally be a lack of experience in that type of game.

Now Harmy's been ruled out of the series so Broad and Gough should get a good run in the team. Broad looks very impressive everytime I've seen him, could end up pushing for Mahmood/Plunketts place in the test team.

I think it's safe to discount Mahmood as a one day prospect now, Broad did good but with his county record in 20-20 its not a big surprise.

I think the batting needs a kick, Tresco is looking better again, Bell will look better in one day format. I'm surprised ed joyce didn't get picked over Bell in some ways, he's a more natural choice.

Yardy and Dalrymple both did good

End result was a good kicking though... :(

Even though I was sceptical when the game started I thought Bell did alright until his somewhat soft dismissal. His timing of the ball can definately take advantage of not having men on the boundary without resorting to riskier arial shots. He seemed to play well with Trescothick at the top of the order.

Its this habbit of losing a wicket and then quickly losing 1 or 2 more for not many runs that needs addressing and fast.

Pieterson going for 0 was a shock, won't happen too often. that said, strauss isn't a natural one day batsman in my opinion, although it may just be he compares badly to tresco (incidentally, why not leave strauss at the top and move tresco to 4, he's a great player of spin and only pieterson hits the ball harder)

Oh I am so happy Pakistan won today and to top it all off Inzamam and Shahid Afridi said a couple of preaching words at my local mosque along with the rest of the team :D
