England vs The Netherlands & other International Friendlies ** spoilers ** [29th Feb 2012]

One up front? What? It's a 4-3-3.

Ah, the self defence Stevie love in. Better than Lampard? Haha. He's been dire this season bar one half hour against Newcastle

Gerrard shouldn't start because he played 120 minutes 3 days ago.

Other than that he is better than frank, Gerrard's 08/09 season in the attacking role ****es all over anything Lampard has done in that position.

Oh and you're right about Barry, usually awful player.

So because Gerrard had one great season in that role he's better than Lampard?

For the record Gerrard got 29 goals and 13 assists in 58 starts that season. Lampard 21 goals and 20 assists in 70 starts.

Lampards next season he got 34 goals and 17 assists in 59 starts..... oh wait, that one season ****es all over anything Gerrard has ever done in that position, in 08/09 Lampard had an exceptional season also and the next season, lampard blew away ANY season Gerrard has ever had. Well done.

Wait how did Gerrard do, maybe he went on and had an equally impressive season after that, no 13 goals 12 assists in 48 starts. So Lampard over the two seasons got 55 goals and 37 assists, Gerrard got 42 goals and 25 assists. Yup, Gerrard craps all over Lampard, no really.

Lampard is easily better than Gerrard, from a fairly quick glance Gerrard has scored 15 or more assists once in his career, and scored more than 20 or more in a season 3 times. Lampard has scored 15 assists or more 5 times, and scored 20 or more 5 times.

So the single bestest season Gerrard has had, isn't as good in goals or assists as Lampards, and consistency wise, Lampard blows Gerrard away. By no measure is Gerrard better than Lampard, not least because in his best scoring/assisting season Gerrard was basically a second striker and not a central midfielder, Lampard has always played as a midfielder. Fitness, best season, most goals in a season, most assists in a season, season after season, titles, everything Lampard beats Gerrard in, every single measure.

EDIT:- not in a bashing Gerrard way but in a freaky stats way, in Gerrards best season 08/09, he had 202 shots and had 80 on target. In Lampards 09/10 season his best season he had.... 202 shots and 80 on target :o that really is pretty god damned weird :p

England U21's 3-0 up against Belgium at the moment... guess who's going to be in charge after Pearce fails at the Euro's... :D

I would rather have Gerard for a cup final where it's all on the line and you need someone to step up and make an impact.

But I would much rather have Lampard over the course of a whole season as he is more consistent and generally plays more good games than quite ones (Gerard being the opposite of that)

BUT at the moment I would have neither because they are both past their best :p

It is funny, in seasons gone by, Liverpool don't win, 'Gerrard had a quiet game'.

Also playing in a constantly better team is going to make you look better and provide you much more opportunities to assist/score.

Interesting lineup, and a welcomed one, if for nothing else might get the journo's what they want.

After the World Cup they were leading the calls for a younger England side and to do away with the old guard. Whilst it isn't entirely possible to do, Pearce has atleast put his reputation on the line and given these younger and more inexperienced players the chance to prove if they can cut it.

Everyone wanted it, now we will get it, and then we can see what good it will do. At the end of the day, the majority of these will be the ones we will be relying on after the Euro's and certainly towards the next World Cup when Terry, Rio, Lamps and Gerrard are too old.

Parker for captain was a great choice, easily been the most consistent performer for England in the last 12-months and the one of all those candidates likely to get a full 90-minutes with no game at the weekend.
