england young team for world cup playoffs

As far as I'm concerned Gerrards gone. Cramp after 70 minutes? He's obviously knackered. It's a shame, but the injuries have caught up.

I reckon that'd do pretty well.

I like it. The problem is that these players will only be used as fringe squad players and we'll stick with the old golden generation as long as we can. Would love to see Hodgson given time, and start to integrate the youth players from day one. Drop the liked of Terry, Gerrard (albeit he did well), parker but keep Cole and Rooney. Give the youngsters a chance and let them play.

I'd like to see this in the future:
---------------------------Hart--------------------------
Richards/Walker--Cahill/Jones--Smalling/Lescott--Baines/Cole
--------------------Cleverly--Rodwell---------------------
Walcott/Lennon-------Wilshire/Oxlade-------Johnson/Young
-------------------Rooney/Bent/Welbeck-------------------

Arsenal have Carl Jenkinson. Young rightback who looks ok. Frimpong however has declared for Ghana but is yet to play for them.

weird thing was i checked jenkinson on the bbc list and he shows as finnish ?

frimpong similar thought he had declared for someone else but showed as english.

Smalling shouldnt be anywhere near an England starting 11 D:
He's just a versatile squad player..

versatility is the sort of thing that can get some players into a championship team tho, jack of all trades master of none.

he went to the championship with lack of match practice/fitness from what i remember due to injuries during the season, similar to scott parker who carried an injury into, and possibly through the championship.

losing barry/lampard to injuries restricted what RH could do after that imo.

glen johnson wasn't put on the list due to age, currently 28, so 30 going into the world cup, looking more towards the sort of players we can get into the quallies to give them proper international experience in competition rather than usual useless friendlies.

.

He got offered a call up for Finland but is declined. He is undecided. Frimpong knows who he wants to play for, but they haven't wanted him so far. Also he blew his ACL so not really had a chance I suppose.

fair enough, added jenkinson, and left frimpong on as well due to him being available at the moment.

micheal mancienne - Hamburg.
Wilifried Zaha - Palace

as with all the youngsters they will need to have outstanding seasons to get noticed/picked, but i think these 2 will have to have truly OUTSTANDING seasons due to:

mancienne playing abroad (which i applaud him for, most english players don't have the guts to go and try because there likely to get found out with there lack of technical ability imho)

zaha : playing in the championship

now while i don't rule them out i just think FA are to narrow minded to consider them unless they really get noticed.

This is the problem with english fans and england in general.

"we sucked at this competition, how can we win the next one by randomly choosing youth who aren't even slightly as good as the current team let alone the better team we could have had without the Sun picking the squad".

We CAN'T win the next world cup, we CAN'T win the next Euro's, we MIGHT be able to win the World cup after that if we fundamentally change the direction of coaching and football in this country now and we get lucky with the 13-17 year olds who still have time left to be taught a different kind of football.

The problem is that while the country is utterly convinced of our ability to win something, they and the "powers that be" won't ignore the current team in favour of a massive fundamental change.

Spain, Germany, France all at various stages had the balls to say, its not working, lets change this thing from the bottom up to something that works. England have thought that many times, and never done a thing about it AND put "old" style English footballers in charge of most of the plans/thinking/power positions in the FA.

Half of those players listed, well 80% of them simply aren't good enough.

Arsenal, Wilshire and potentially Ox, the rest won't ever be good enough. Chelsea, potentially Bertrand, far to early to see on only a few games, the rest, no. Rodwell's no where near, heard a lot good about the other two but not seen them myself yet. None of that Liverpool list will make it, Spearing and Shelvey are actively bad players, the fact that english fans talk about them purely because they are young and at a supposedly top club, both of them are terrible. Kelly is the only promising one amongst them but, I don't see anything to suggest he's better than Richards, and Walker might potentially be good and physically is far better than Kelly.

Welbeck, Johnson, Shawcross, Huddlestone, Sinclair, etc, these are all pushing to be average players, no where near potential world cup winning material.

Honestly on the whole damn list about 3 players have actually already performed or hinted at the level required to win a Euro or World cup, Wilshire, Richards, Hart.

This is the problem, our "youth" coming through isn't even close to good enough, I'd go as far as to say most of the younger players look worse and look like they'll be worse than most of the players available for the past decade. I think our youth players are getting worse, largely because the whole rest of the world is moving on playing better football while England gets worse at teaching the same old **** football.

Rooney is considered world class in all aspects of his game by MANY people on here and by even more people in the general public. He can barely pass, he's not the best finisher, he's not a visionary or creative master, he's not a brilliant freekick taker, he can't defend at all. The best part of his game, running the ball with pure power, is barely even a part of his game any more.

If it was as easy as just picking a team capable of winning a cup, then we would have done it years ago.

The idea behind picking youth is they will get better with experience playing together. How do you know they aren't capable if you don't give them a trial at said level?

I just cannot get excited about any of these players, pretty much for the reasons DM states. There are a few exciting players (Hart, Wilshere, Cleverley), but to become hopeful and think we might do well next time or the time after seems pointless.

I know it's really negative but I am tired of being disappointed with England.

i agree, i don't see the youngsters as being any better than the current players, and if i'm honest there not likely to get anywhere near as much football to allow them to develop there game as they need either.

of those on the list hart, walker, cleverly, wilshire, walcott & welbeck are the only ones i see getting a chance to start for there teams as well as england.

we went into the euro's with the likes of lampard and barry as backup, they've had enough chances for the management (even RH) to know what they offer, i don't see the point of playing them in what are no more than exhibition games usually.

off the list, the following players are the only ones i can see getting somewhat regular football next season.

i can't say that i think any could currently replace the team from the euro's, but i'd like to see be given the chance in the friendlies leading up to the world cup qualifiers and the qualifiers if we have chance.

Lallana, Rodriguez and Cork will (thankfully) be key parts to saints first team next season so should get to prove their ability and general worthiness for the world cup qualies, Cork could well be an answer to the midfield dilemma that seems to be running as he can pick up and play the ball more or less anywhere in the middle.

Hopefully over the next few years there's a bit of development in the way we pick the England squad as its not been working much so far (plus picking Lallana could leave England with a player that can dribble with the ball at his feet and not watching the ball ever other step!)

It will be interesting to see how Lallana does this coming season because he certainly seems like a player that England should be using: good at dribbling, creative passing and can score goals. Cork is a very good midfielder but not quite International standard (although I'd love to be proven wrong). Rodriguez has a lot of potential so I could see him becoming an England player within a few years.

Theres also a good few youngsters at the youth academy who play with skill and vision rather than the normal England standard. Hopefully with the new updates being implemented at the youth academy we can produce even more promising players.
