Englands World Cup Failure

Just seen this on Twitter:

i dont buy that at all

after the poor performances against algeria, THAT outburst, and then the 4-1 drumming by the germans, the press declared open season on the england team.

If they had a story like that they would have printed it. The press have no reason to do rooney any favours by waiting till he gets home.

And whats the point in waiting till he gets home anyway, wasnt coleen on the plane back from south africa ?

:D:p:D:p

You spend too much money on taxi's! :p

No, I spend too much time in taxis, I need human versions of Heat magazine to pass the time. :p

That aside though, as said it really was just on the grapevine, but it is something that's been said (not only be taxi drivers) over the years. Probably a few rings of truth to it.

I simply dont understand why Capello stated he would consider players on merit, fitness and form then still took the same old plodders who had failed previously..did somebody at the FA have a hand in picking the squad?
half the team we have know that no matter how badly they play, how poor their record is, they will still walk into the team...if there is no hunger, there is no passion and no will to win.

they looked like a beaten side every time they stared a game, very few players looked like they even cared, no desire, bottled challenges.

ultimatley though capello picked the squad so the fault is his, picking King is a mystery, he knew he wouldnt last and pick Heskey was lunacy....as shown by our lack of goals, buidling your team around Rooney in the hope he will get the goals was a huge gamble as you had no backup plan..as it turned out Rooney flopped and when we needed goals we were left with players in poor goalscoring form (and one nugget who never had any goalscoring form)

watch Spain last night. THAT is what our midfield should be doing when we play 3 central midfielders in the side... i.e running the game from midfield, NOT BEING CUT OUT OF THE GAME.

fact is that fat frank, gerrard etc appear to be luxury players. only useful if you have a great defensive midfield pairing to cover them. england dont, hence why playing Barry, Lampard and Gerrard all together offers nothing of value whatsoever.

Did anyone else notice that when Portugal were throwing men forward to try and equalise and got caught on the counter Spain still had to work for the shot (and didn't score a 2nd), as opposed to just breezing through the defence like it wasn't there (ala England)?

Just goes to show really - Lampards non-goal was academic, we did not deserve to go any further.

Ok fair enough give me more example of players lighting up the world cup that play in the premiership. I'm not saying it's the only reason but another I can think is playing reasonable is Tevez, he only played (probably not started) 35 games last year for City.

That has to help come the end of the season, Rooney had likely played more than that by the time he got injured in march wasn't it?

Tevez has started 44 games in the past year and been a sub in 7 more, scoring 30 with 9 assists in the process, thats City and Argentina.

Wayne Rooney started 50 games and made 2 sub appearances, but people very often say how bad players look largely from tiredness from long traveling, Tevez traveled far further for international games. ITs pretty much a wash,

Messi STARTED 56 games and was a sub in 6 more, so has played 10 whole games more than Rooney. Mascherano has started 49 games with 4 sub appearances.

Muller whose been superb in the World cup started 46, with 6 sub appearances.

Lucio started 49 games, isn't the oldest, but is fairly old and finished the season later than most with the CL final.

Tiredness is a COMPLETE excuse, and something english fans shouldn't be looking for, we constantly look for a manufactured excuse, change something around and still fail.

The team was simply not right, it had no balance because the selection was completely wrong, again. We didn't play significantly better against Slovenia(if we did how would that be explained, tired players get better the more games they played?), we played a different quality team who played a different game. The USA have some quality and got at us, it caused us problems, Algeria have no quality, but do have pace and running in abundance and that caused us to be pegged back and play like crap, Slovenia sat back and offered no problems at all, THATS the reason we played better.

Thats also the reason we looked better in qualifiers, playing much worse teams who play for a draw doesnt' test us, the same problems evident at the world cup were evident in qualifiers and friendlies over the past decade let alone the past 2 years and we play the same way in the first friendly/qualifier of the year a week or two into the season.

Tiredness is nothing but an excuse, for a half dozen tournaments in a row we've picked the most popular players rather than a balanced team and thats cost us every single time by being unable to play proper team football, the fix is easy and obvious and we need a manager willing to drop names like Gerrard, Terry, and simply not pick people like Johnson. Until a manager ignores the FA and press and picks the team he wants rather than the one they choose for him, we'll fail miserably, and the more we buy into these manufactured excuses the less reason the FA have to change their methods because they just push the blame onto someone else and try the same tired formula with a new manager/scapegoat.

Tiredness as an excuse is only possible if you forget about the confederations cup, Spain, USA, Brazil (and a bunch of others) played in a cup last summer, USA/Brazil going to the final, and Spain the semi's, so most of the guys on those teams played a long season(with a long Euro's before it for Spain), then the confed cup in the summer, another long season, into the world cup and all 3 teams have been completely fine.

England didn't play in the Euro's at all, didn't play a summer tournament last summer either, and couldn't produce in this one.

People have the nerve to talk about England players being tired, despite Spain playing in tournaments and having next to no summer break for the 3rd season in a row and not looking remotely tired? Its unbelievably stupid.

ARe we not as a nation embarassed to call it tiredness, when Spain have played so much more football than any English player in the past 3 years, with essentially no break.

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/player/_/id/12907?cc=5739&ver=global

Xavi played 77 games, with 74 starts in the season after they won the Euro's, they went almost straight back into training with little to no break, had another long long season, then played in the confed cup then played another season with little break and then into the Euro's. Sorry but there isn't an England player that comes close to the number of games and the lack of break the Spain squad has had, not even close.

Its embarassing to talk about it, over the past 3 years Xavi and several other Barca players have played what, 30-40 games more than your average England player, a season of extra games, and its England making excuses about tiredness. Those Spanish players played those extra 30-40 games, while English players were lounging on a beach having a break.

How can anyone even suggest its tiredness with a straight face, anyone who does should be ashamed and none more than Capello.

Thanks for looking up some more stats. I was inclined to think the tiredness thing was garbage and my checking the Premier League stats seemed to confirm that. Your inclusion of other games and international stats only goes further in proving the point.

I know its from the daily mail but it looks like their hearts wernt in the world cup and playing well for england

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1290766/Wayne-Rooney-goes-holiday-booked-TWO-days-World-Cup-exit.html

Wayne Rooney will today fly to Barbados for a holiday booked two days before England’s dismal World Cup exit.

They will first stay at Rooney’s £5million Barbados mansion before going on a luxury cruise liner - then flying to gambling paradise Las Vegas for ten days
.

what a joker. he has all the support of england and he is busy making plans before he is out of the world cup!

No idea, but I've since heard from other people that he was caught on tape. Probably no more than a rumour.

Like Pigeon said, there's a rumour about Gerrard every couple of months. Before him it was Fowler and no doubt when Gerrard's not around it'll be another Liverpool player.

A couple of months back the rumours were meant to be printed in 1 of the Sunday rags and that it's came from the same guy that broke the Terry story

Did you hear about the Agger rumours from a couple of seasons back? Absolute classic stuff, you couldn't make it up.

I hate the English people: Ashley Cole in foul-mouthed rant days before the World Cup

Another dailyfail story

here is another one, its even worse http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...gars-drinks--youd-think-England-duds-won.html

Puffing on cigars, feet up, smiling and relaxing with a few beers, you'd think this was a team celebrating a famous victory.

Instead, this is England's hapless footballers just hours after crashing out to Germany 4-1 in the nation's worst ever World Cup defeat.

The snap was taken by defender Ledley King on Sunday in the Hotel Marang in Rustenberg, where the England team was holed up.

They'd prefer them to be self-harming I suppose? What on earth were they expecting?

Interesting article

Clicky

It's a very good article indeed and thanks for posting that one R34P3R.

In my opinion we should be planning for the World Cup in 2022 or 2026 right now. Yes that sounds absolutely bonkers I know. A world cup 12 or 16 years away but that is how bad I think the state of Grassroots football is at this present time.

We need to be nurturing the 8 year olds regardless of their height or physical demeanour. We need to be varying the coaching methods instead of the same old 'Tried' & 'Tested' Drills that are now failing the current crop of players at what should be the pinnacle of their careers. We need to be focusing on the skill building, creativity, technique and fun aspect of football before the results matter. If we get that right then the results will come regardless

Do we need a Fabio Capello ? Well we need a £6m a season man that's for sure but that money should be going to a Trevor Brooking. You can't build a strong house by putting the roof on first. The foundations must be 100% safe.

Makes me depressed watching the smooth German team desimate us and the Argies. They look so incredibly well oiled that I literally cannot see how our bunch of overpaid elephants can even dream of competing.
