English League Football [26th Feb - 2nd Mar 2010] **spoilers**

Doesn't matter who it was going to.

Eh? You can break your leg, if unlucky enough, just turning and catching your studs in the turf. Do you send the pitch off?

Indeed. Neither was the Eduardo incident, and neither was the Ramsey incident.

so why did the ref send shawcross off if it was a so called 50-50 challenge?

Probably over reacting a little due to the timing, it's a really hard pill to swallow when the circumstances are so similar, you get the feeling it's just going to keep happening.

I find it hard to get past Arsenal are missing a really talented player who was just making the position his own, now he's out for nearly a year and it isn't ok and should need to happen. You can have a committed and aggressive game with nobody breaking legs, you need to know the line I guess

Just heard on 5 Live that the Stoke fans were singing 'Hes only got one leg'. Utterly dispicable, the kid is 18 and is looking at a career threatening injury.
Without seeing the tackle yet, i agree on principle with the sending off. Mans game or not, a misstimed tackle reckless enough to break a mans leg should be a sending off. Fair play to the lad though, he was obviously distraught with himself for the challenge.

It's unfortunate to Shawcross as well. He's also young, and it was a 50/50 tackle that could have just ruined the lads career. The media are going to make a huge huge thing of it, and you can see in the video that he's clearly upset himself. He's going to feel incredibly bad for something that is a freak accident for the rest of his career, and it's going to haunt and loom him whenever his name is mentioned.

No doubt some morons would have hurled abuse but nearly the whole ground clapped the lad off as was being stretchered off

Did Shawcross break somebodies ankle a few years ago too? He needs to learn to play and make challenges without causing serious damage.

He didn't look like he did it on purpose but there's a way to avoid these dangerous challenges.

As an Arsenal fan, I physically couldn't move after Ramsey's incident. Completely stunned.

A poor tackle, but it's part and parcel of the game.

Arsenal simply have a different approach towards football and this leads "lesser" teams to resort to a more physical approach to cancel out the Gunners rhythm.

It's very hard to see where he catches him. From that picture it looks like his leg had already snapped before he was tackled, maybe by the way he landed?

That's after the collision, Shawcross is spinning around and away from the impact.

Looks to me like Ramsey went in just as hard as Shawcross and from further away from the ball.

I am a Stoke fan and I felt the same. Just wanted the game over and not at all bothered about the result.

Shawcross just been called up for England. I don't think he will be celebrating. A bittersweet day.
