English League Football ** spoilers ** [21st - 23rd August 2010]

Why exactly are people writing off Chelsea in the years to come, Drogba has passed that 30 mark that in the past two years has everyone suggesting players can't possibly be good after, he's had his best season ever last year, and started this season even better than last season, thats after playing in the ACN and then also the world cup, in which he broke his arm weeks before hand and still managed to play in several games in the cup.

Lampard might be 32 aswell, but again put in exactly the same form/goals/assists performance as is usual and was key to Chelsea winning the title. I'd be surprised if Lampard of Drogba got noticeably worse within 3 season and Terry at 29 has another 6-7 season left in him if he wants.

Evans did get absolutely bent over today by Zamora, was quite depressing at times :(

Also, does Valencia ever do anything other than stand wide and deliver (often) poor crosses? He shows no flare, never cuts inside or has a shot, was dire today .

Only been a few Newcastle games, went today.... was brilliant!

could have been a differenct story if that penalty had gone in, but that is where Villas praise ends...

We totally owned them today, Harper had a dodgy day kicking wise and Routledge ran into walls a bit but other than that, we were amazing.

Andy Carroll Hat trick! I've been saying since last week he will get a hat trick (more jokingly) But today he really delivered on what he might be able to do for us.

People obviously getting carried away with him wearing the no.9 and being from the area.... but wouldn't it be nice? :)

Tougher game next week, away at Wolves, if we come away with a point why can't we be better than probably 8teams in this poor premier league.

Are you serious? How many 36 year old center backs are there in the premier league?

Adams I think was 35 in his last season at Arsenal, Keown was 37 or 38, how many keepers usually play to 40, till recently incredibly few.

Adams was hardly the peak of fitness, with years on the booze and the like, players currently playing have pretty much been "professional" athlete's their entire careers and consequently, Drogba is improving at the age of 32, VDS is still playing Canavaro only just retired at 36.

Sol Campbell, a huge bloke(which will punish joints and things more than smaller guys) is still playing at 35, and played pretty damn well last season with basically 5 months out the game in the first half of the season and he was actually very good in the last couple months for Arsenal.

Blanc JOINED Utd at 35 I think playing till he was 37.

Neville, Giggs 36, Scholes 35 started and play the full(i think) first 2 games being the best player for Utd by a wide margin, etc.

Beckham is playing actually very well for Milan, and is playing a very long season playing in the MLS and Serie A, with lots of travel in the past couple years for England, and he's 35 and still going with a rumoured potential move back to England aswell.

This idea that players can't play till they are 35, is some media driven frenzy of England needing younger players, and its complete tosh, Heskey is 32 and hasn't slowed down a bit, he's exactly as crap as he always was.

well they came 2nd last season, they arent going to win it this season. this would mean that the team needs improving.

or do you disagree.

the defenders where the best in the league by conceeding the fewest goals, so no they didnt come 2nd

The team may have, but you specifically mentioned defenders so stop trying to backtrack

It was infront of them where the issues are (by giving away the midfield and not putting away the goals that should have been scored)

debatable isnt it:/ i had valencia in my fantasy team but he is more workhorse than showpony, but to the detriment that he only sometimes weighs in with goals and assists i was hoping this may be a breakout season for him.

but then maybe like evans he just isnt good enough to fill the CR7 void?

So you couldn't name one 36 year old defender who currently plays in the premier league.

I said center back for a reason, not goalkeeper, not midfielder and not striker. As a center back you're vulnerable to pacey strikers trying to split the defense. What's your point with regards to Heskey? If he was crap in the first place, saying he's still crap hardly justifies your argument. There's a reason why Sol Campbell is now playing for Newcastle.

I'm not saying players can't play on until 35 but a center back? No...

Unless you want to be ass raped every week by a half decent striker with pace.

I guess by Oct last season you were saying the same about Rooney during his 10 game dry spell?

give Valencia and Evans a chance for god's sake

People would be pretty stupid to bet against Utd being there right at the end whatever the state of the squad is at this time.

Never know - this might persaude SAF to at least TRY and get a proper defensive midfielder before the week is out, Utd completely lost majority of midfield play in the 2nd half (actually after about 30 - 35 mins), highly unlikely thought I admit

I believe Man.U. equalled their PL GD record last season with +50 odd, but Chelsea eclipsed that with +70 odd.
Man.U. last season were just as good an allround side as Chelsea but we just scored a stupid amount of goals, Man.U. didn't really lack anywhere on the pitch, domestically.

lol

if you look after yourself, 35 is nothing and barring injuries a true professional in the guise of beckham, scholes, giggs should be still going strong at 35. players like lennon, walcott; fast pacey, lightweights will fade after 28 usually

I just got annoyed today watching endless, aimless crosses :(

Im not disputing that - but I understand Chelsea conceded more also thats all I was really saying (32 for Chelsea vs 28 for Utd for the whole season)

Just like today and last week, Utd last season didnt take some easy chances, Chelsea on more occasions than not were more clinical infront of goal, of course you had your off days too - an extra draw (instead of defeat) made the points difference in the end even before the additional +16 GD (if Utd had got that additional draw)

FYI It was a joint record of +58 with 2007/2008 according to official PL site :)

I'm happy to take a point at a place where United historically struggle to get anything.

Bear in mind that Chelsea have had a very easy start. This is no offence to either of the two teams they played but most of the top half teams would have torn them a new one playing like that.

I'll wait until they play a top six side before making judgement.
