English League Football ** spoilers ** [21st - 23rd August 2010]

It was enough to make me dread today's game. As it is, i'm gutted we couldn't hold on, but chuffed to bits with a point at the end of the day.

I think Utd only started struggling there from a couple of seasons ago (08/09) - before that I seem to recalll we were pretty comfortable going to CC

Lost there to a Papa Bouba Diop goal a few seasons ago, in fact United have put in some pretty abject performances at Craven cottage over the years.

Fergie just doesnt treat sides with enough respect.

Or rather, us losing there in the past has caused Fulham to realise that if they have a go, they might well get something from the game.

Reportedly this is the Liverpool 11 for tomorrow:
---------------Reina
-Johnson--Carra--Skrtel--Aurelio
Kuyt------Poulsen-Masch-----Jova
--------------Gerrard
--------------Torres

Providing that's right (and it probably is) then no real surprises there. With Cole out and Agger not quite fit, the only real decision was Poulsen or Lucas (unless we went for a flat 4-4-2). Personally I'd have gone for Lucas over Poulsen (he looked out of his depth in midweek) but it's clear that Hodgson rates him, for some reason.

give Valencia and Evans a chance for god's sake

Never know - this might persaude SAF to at least TRY and get a proper defensive midfielder before the week is out, Utd completely lost majority of midfield play in the 2nd half (actually after about 30 - 35 mins), highly unlikely thought I admit

im sure i was saying somehing about utd having the weakest central midfield not too many days ago. scholes is a genius but at 35 he aint going to do everything himself now is he?

evans is just not good enough im afriad. valencia the jury still out.

Wonder if that's it for Lucas or if we'll see him in the easier games.

With Aquilani going, I'm pretty sure that isn't it for Lucas but if Poulsen does start ahead of him then it would appear that he's very much 4th in the pecking order.

With Cole off Torres and Gerrard back in CM being plan A, Lucas's chances are going to be limited if Masch doesn't leave and Poulsen's ahead of him.

Oh my, after the stick I got this weekend that was a nice result to wind some people up, not going to win the prem with that crap.

Just seen the Everton penalty appeal on MOTD2 :o

Lee Mason has got to be the worst ref in the league. Whether it was a foul or not was open to opinion but how Mason could view that incident as being outside the box is beyond me; he was no more than 3 yards away, clear view and the incident unraveled at snail's pace.

Villa need a coach, the 2nd half today begars belief.

If the villa staff watched anything of newcastle last year, they'd have known if you let kevin nolan run through midfield, you're as good as a goal or two down with the stjames crowd behind him.

Today you saw exactly why people wern't queing up to sign Ireland, his positional play as a midfielder just isn't there, to my mind why he wasn't anywhere near the city team in the end beyond the impact sub.

Easy question, where'd you play that guy?

Right..team for tomorrow:
............Hart.........
Zab....Toure....Kompany....Lescott
Milner..De Jong...Toure.....Johnson
.............Silva.........................
..............Tevez....................
But i reckon that Mancini will go with Ade and Tev because last week Tevez was alone for basically the whole game.
EDIT:Why doesnt Scholes take penaltys? he can hit a ball well enough and has plenty of experience surely he should be after Rooney?

Scholes has taken a few I believe (although I haven't seen one for ages) but he tends to just blast it rather than place it. Not sure why Giggs didn't step up this time (although I believe the one at the end of last season was actually his first in a match!)

Does this seem overly harsh to anyone

In the end it's not like Nani missed it, the goalie made a good save and perhaps Fergie should be more concerned that our defence can't hold out for 3 mins and concedes from a sloppy set piece.

It wasn't that good a save. It was at a great height for the keeper, not right in the corner or with any great pace.

And I guess Nani took it because he's the type of player that thinks he's better than he is and ran to get to the ball first :)

If Giggs wanted to take it then I'm sure he would have pulled rank (after all last season when Giggs scored a penalty, it was won by Nani and he hardly took over then did he?)

My theory is better :p

Maybe Giggs didn't want to cause a situation like the Lampard/Drogba one from the last day of last season. It's pretty clear from Fergie's comments that Nani wasn't meant to take the pen.

edit: The same thing happened on Thursday at Anfield. Aurelio was walking over to get the ball for our pen and Cole sprinted across the box to get there first. Aurelio didn't say anything though.

I think it's unlikely to be honest, can't say I've seen that happen at United before, and Nani has had the opportunity before. It wasn't the best penalty I've seen but it was far from the worst and we shouldn't need a 3rd goals when there is barely 3 mins to play. Nice to see Fergie blaming an individual rather than our terrible defending today.
