English League isnt the best in the world

Then teach the English players more technique? :D
Pretty sure the youngsters must be getting better coaching by now and with the emphasis on more flair and skills.. If not then why?

There are currently 2'769 English coaches with the top UEFA coaching badge.

Compared to the 24'995 in Spain, Italy nearly 29'500, Germany nearly 35'000, France 17'000.

England play football the wrong way, have done for years, it's not worked since '66.

The Premier League is a big reason for English failure of late. Each place in the Premiership is worth 750'000, you can't afford to risk new young English players.

The F.A. Don't really have any control over the Premier League, the Premier League isn't ran with England in mind and the benefit of the national side. They're ran with themselves in mind and promoting themselves.

England need to end over reliance on players from over seas domestically, English players aren't as good as people think they are.

There is so much money in English football yet very little is put back in to developing the next generation.

It's not easy and certainly doesn't happen overnight. When Wenger came here he said that the youth set-up in this country was a mess and it'd take at least 10 years to see any improvement. 12/13 years on and we're starting to see the likes of Gibbs and Wilshere (good technical, European style players) trickle through, but that's just Arsenal, I doubt the other clubs are as obsessed with youth development as Wenger has been in the last 10 years.

Leeds and West Ham haven't done too badly over the last 10-15 years.

I was just talking about Arsenal tbf as that's all I know ;)

Who from Leeds/West Ham are top class technical players though? Joe Cole has great technique and Lampard has pretty good technique I guess, who else? Forgot Carrick who has good passing ability but also a lot of failings

Leeds have had Milner, Delph, Lennon, Howson, White all of whom are very good on the ball. They've had other good players come through such as Woodgate, Robinson et al.

West Ham, as you say, have had Lampard, Cole, Carrick, Collison (who I haven't seen myself, but have heard good things about), Stanislas and Tomkins are supposedly good too.

Everton do well, as do Middlesborough in finding new talent.

In Spain a lot of the top flight clubs have second teams that play in the third tier of Spanish football (they aren't allowed to get promoted any higher): Real Madrid Castilla, Barcelona Atlético, Bilbao Athletic etc. This is obviously a huge boon in helping spanish teams develop young talent, and we ought to do something similar.

and we ought to do something similar.

At the moment, I believe this is explicitly disallowed. The problem is where would you insert the teams? It's not fair on teams below to just allow Manchester Utd B to start off in League 2, for example, so something would have to be agreed in that respect.

There are a lot less high quality coaches in the UK, which means that the concentration of good coaching is almost exclusively at the top clubs. This reduces the incentive for clubs to send young players on loan to League 1/2, as well as the fact that technical ability in those leagues is not protected or encouraged in terms of a certain level of physical aggression and bullying which would not be accepted in the World Cup or even Premier League takes place.

I dont think the premship is the best league in terms of players but its the most exciting and fun to watch imo. As last season prooved there are no easy games and you cant take any results for granted.

You need to be a good team these days just to stay in the permship never mind get into the top 10.

You have the big 4, Spurs with their champions league football will surely get better. You have man city with their vast ammounts of money they will get better. Villa and everton are solid teams who can beat any one on there day. Then there are teams like stoke and fullham who are tough to beat and dont give you a easy game. Then theres west ham, sunderland and newcastle who are big clubs and have the tools to push on.

Its gonna get to the point where theres no longer a big 4 theres gonna be 6 or seven clubs fighting for the 4 champions league places i wouldnt be supprised if that happens next season.

Eddie Izzard, and it was more like 48 marathons in 54 days I think.

OMG WTF? i knew it was a big achievement but couldnt remember it exactly off the top of my head.

see if he can run 48 marathons in 54 days.

then the england team dont have a leg to stand on. they cannot use tiredness as an excuse. especially since they get adequate rest between matches and training sessions.

i hate it when people say the players are tired from playing 3 matches in a week, running about for 45 minutes (with constant breaks at throw in's, corner's, free kicks, subs, etc) with a 15 minute break in between.

these guys are professional athletes, if it was that fat idiot who thinks hes funny "corden" doing it then yeah he might get tired after 10 minutes.

on the other hand zanetti who is 36 still has the pace to run flat out for 90 minutes every week and win the champions league and serie A, maybe the players need to stop drinking and smoking if they cant keep up with him.

I think what makes our league the most physically demanding is the style of football here, look at spain its all about keeping possession! Same goes for South America teams just hold it pass n move, it seems a lot more frantic/rushed in England on the whole I'd say.

lol, spains all about keeping posession, have you watched it. Its all out attack and constant mistakes, meh, all leagues are fairly similar, it just depends how many games you watch. If you watch every game your team plays in the EPL then you'll get two (for me) Arsenal vs Chelsea, and two high scoring Arsenal vs someone crap at the bottom games.

If you tune in to a Barca vs crap bottom of the league(or anywhere 4th down) you'll see them dominate all posession and win 64-0 and think they are the bestest team around, you'd think the same of Real, if you catch the Real vs Barca game, it will be more bitty, fighty, lower scoring and a slightly different kind of football.

In all leagues you get games where both teams sit back, one team sits back, neither team sits back, both go all out attack, sometimes a team will get a lead and hope that 11 players in their own box for 85minutes will get them a win, sometimes you'll get a team that scores an early goal and goes balls out to win by the biggest margin of the year. All leagues have all different types of games. Thats just the way all leagues have always been. English players in general, lack a certain vision, one of the most important things in actually breaking down a defence.

I think Gerrard is way over rated in terms of flair/creativeness. His creative passing is mostly whacking it 40 yards into a corner and hoping someone fast enough can latch onto the end, if someone isn't close enough they look like awful passes, if someone catches up to it, it looks superb and people are fooled.

The rest of his game is a slow quite big guy slowly getting up to full speed and ending up like a frieght train by the time he hits a box, its not ineffective, but its not Messi by any stretch of the imagination.

England DOES produce great players, because not all players need to be taught football, as with anything, some players just get it. As for Uefa badges, that stat means nothing, any single person on this forum can go get those badges doing short courses, it teaches basic teaching routines, it does NOT teach coaches how to make players into great players, it doesn't go into vision and simply "getting" football.

I find it hard to suggest that Lampard has bad technique, vision, ability to pick out a killer defence splitting pass, or that he can't read the best time to make a run or how to put it in the net. We have plenty of capable players, their unwillingness to play in foreign teams of guys who they won't be able to understand isn't surprising. People want to live and play where they are most comftable, its entirely nothing to do with how good they are.

Mourinho has said many times how he'd like to take Lampard, Terry, Cole with him to Inter/Real, theres just little incentive for them to go.

Goals in the World Cup so far by League:

Spain 21
England 20
Germany 13
Italy 13
France 7
Holland 7
Turkey 6
Mexico 5
Japan 4
Belgium 3
Portugal 3
Russia 3
South Africa 3
USA 3
Greece 2
Argentina 1
Australia 1
Chile 1
Denmark 1
Ecuador 1
N Korea 1
Slovakia 1

Pretty much agrees with the idea that La Liga and the Prem are the top two, no?

What about players from leagues left in the World Cup?

I'd guess Spanish / German sides have more players from their leagues left in?

Don't England have about 18/19 players left in and a fair few of those are bench warmers, ala Fabergas, Renia, et al?

I hate the defensive nature of the Prem, makes 90% of the games absolute bore-fests. The only games I am guaranteed to look forward to are the Man Utd v Arsenal ones
