English League Weekend Football 8-12th January *spoilers*

We all know that this rule which was brought in, saying that the refs would choose when to stop play so the players wouldn't have to kick the ball out, hasn't been implemented properly/worked.

You still see teams all the time putting the ball out to be sporting while the ref does nothing. Everton should've stopped play when Denilson went down, especially considering the situation (i.e. no-one challenging him, in full control of the ball).

Arsenal and Wenger get slagged off all the time for not being sporting enough, when Moyes and Everton do it no-one seems to bat an eyelid.

From the referee's point of view the rule has been implemented properly. The only problem is that some players continue to knock the ball out of play. Everton done as they were supposed to and carried on playing and left it to the ref, just like Arsenal did in the first half when Cahill went down after a strong challenge on the half-way line.

There's a difference between a player staying down after a soft challenge whilst their team is being attacked and a player going down whilst his team is in possession without anybody near him. It is clear that something is wrong with that player in those circumstances and therefore Everton should have put the ball out.

It may have been clear that something was wrong with him but it was equally clear that whatever was wrong with him didn't need immediate medical attention. He just pulled up as if he'd tweaked a muscle, the game didn't need to be stopped.

The rule was brought in to try and keep the game going wherever possible and to take the responsibility out of the players hands after a few controversial incidents where teams played on/didn't return the ball etc. Everton didn't do anything wrong just like Arsenal didn't when they played on earlier in the game too.

edit:And had the ball rolled to an Arsenal player in a position where they could have attacked, I don't think their fans would have been calling for the game to be stopped.

**** off with this 4-5-1. There's a time and a place for it! And also **** off Park you piece of **** waste of space. That is all! Going to read the thread now. :p

edit: Having read the thread, it's reminded me how ****ed off I was during the match. 4-5-1 has it's merits in few games for us, very few games. It wastes Rooney completely. Fergie said during last summer that a new team would be built around Rooney, well now's the time Fergie! Actually do it. Get rid of the dead wood and bring in players who can a) score b) keep possession c) pass. We need a whole new stem to the team, a keeper, a defender, a midfielder and someone who compliments Rooney up front.

This season has been horrible, and I know that it's strange as we are second in the league but honestly the quality of our football this season has been at it's lowest since the likes of Djemba Djemba were in the team. No cutting edge or bite. Nobody controlling the game from midfield. We've scored lots of tap ins, penalties and deflected goals. How we are second in the league is beyond me. Too many changes each game, different formations and tactics that just don't suit us. :(

And that Fletcher red card just sums up the refereeing in the EPL. Abysmal isn't a big enough word really.

To be fair Birmingham are a very good team this season.

Refereeing goes both ways these days, how many times have you been gifted things off the ref.

Birmingham more than deserved their point, possibly 3 if most of their shots weren't aimed at PIG. Abysmal refereeing is abysmal refereeing, I'd rather see consistent decisions being made every match. Just look at the extra time, where on earth did 6 minutes come from? It's a joke.

If Fergie puts in an appeal with the F.A. over that red card and it's upheld, then it's just typical of them to stand by their crap referees.

Two Yellows wasn't it? If so you can't appeal for anything other than mistaken identity

Yet another stupid rule. Grrrrrrrr. They make me so angry. It's like the rules are there not to uphold proper sporting behaviour and conduct but to protect themselves when one of their infallible referees makes a massive boo boo.

It's always Fletcher

first the red in the CL semi final last year, then the "dive" in the group stage this year against CSKA, now a reallly soft red. This guy has such bad luck :(

We did have two minutes discussing if a defender could be offside in his own area or not..

yea the icy pitch really showed who has good skill and touch in UTDs team...

park came in at the bottom of the heap, he was simply terrible every time he touched the ball and also when he kept falling over.

not like Evra or Rooney who managed to maintain some composure and dignity...but park was an abomination.

Season before last, at the start of the season everyone clubs etc said there was no reason to kick the ball out, whereas before generally most players did.

Lets not forget Arsenal replayed a game when they scored in the FA Cup when the ball should have been given back.

2 soft yellows but yellows none the less so cant really complain, he got done for the 2nd.

I see fergie hitting out at the Refs again no idea how he gets away with it he needs some proper punishment. I cant stand the guy as of late he makes him self look so childish and petty horrible horrible man.

O and Denilson going down, he had the bal why didnt he just kick it out and go down? There really is no need for him to go down with it at his feet :s

.

To be fair I was thinking while watching the match Brum must have been surrounding the ref for near enough two minutes regarding the own goal

3 subs for Man Utd + 2 for Brum (or was it three as well) - another 2 1/2 minutes

so thats 4 1/2 minutes before some of the other stopages etc

6 minutes is a lot without doubt, but Brum where complaining for a very long time after the goal

Got the scorecasts of Tevez first 2-0 (20/1), 3-0 (25/1) and 4-0 (55/1) tonight with a couple of quid each on.

Hopefully I'll get luckier tonight than Saturday!
