Epic Games Store now open!

The launcher has a factor into how good a version of a game is.

Not sure that applies to GTA. I have both steam and R* versions and the only difference is load times. Both now massively increased due to the R* launcher.
Regardless of what version you are using it does not affect the game in any way.

For me the load times haven't changed one bit over the years. Like you I've played a ton on and off too.

double click an icon, wait for game to load?

It's not that simple is it, games run on different launchers, some launchers are crap, like Rockstar Launcher, it has a few contraints for me, it's buggy with Controller Companion and doesn't connect properly to GOG Galaxy. If it were via Epic Games, the launching the game with a controller would be much easier and also the intergration to GOG Galaxy (keeping everything in one place).

Some games are different depending on how they are installed, for example, Cities Skylines in STEAM vs Windows 10, whole lot of difference.

I have absolutely no idea what you are trying to do. gta v goes through rockstar on both epic and steam.
I think your problems lie with support with GOG and using your controller to launch a game.

When you launch GTA from Steam or Epic, all they do is launch the Rockstar launcher.

Hence why GOG does not sell R* games on their launcher. They are not partnered with R* to integrate with it.

Is Trover Saves the Universe worth it? I think it'll come in at £5 with coupon

Can you play it in VR through the epic store? That's what put me off last time it was cheap. I have only seen a little of the game but think it was designed to be played in VR so might not be the best experience without.

Is control worth £13 ? i think my 1070 would struggle to run it at max settings at 1080p so i have been hanging around for the new 3000's cards to come out so i can at least play it with decent settings. Wonder if it will be cheaper when the new cards come out

It's a hog performance wise. I run at medium 1080p on a 1070. Amazing game, my GOTY for 2019 for sure.

Worth full price let alone £13

I bought the DLC pass for £10 in the sale voucher thingy

Ahh the good old days of buying a game and sitting around looking at pics and reading the manual over and over until you could build a system to run it :D....I've done that once or twice lol
