*EPIC THREAD* Major Problems with Coollaboratory Liquid Pro Thermal Compound DEAD CPU

Christ, im going to remember this one, dont want to be thinking that all paste is the same in the future, although, its taught me one lesson, read the instructions ( 100% honesty - very rarely do) im sure im not the only guilty party for not reading them.

Liquid Pro is a very good TIM.
However it has to be applied carefully.
Works best on heatsinks with copper or nickel plated bottoms.

It does tarnish metals so if you want to resell your CPU's it would be best avoided.
It is not good for the heat pipe through aluminium bottom heatsinks as it eats the ali.
I have heard that Ultra may be OK with ali, i cant confirm that myself.

It worked very well for me on an IVY, used between the core and HS and the top of the HS and a silver arrow.

I believe there are many different types for the same Btec for example there are about 3 different versions of the national dip, general, business( I did that one and it sucked) and I think there is one for networking( not sure if there are any more I m questing there was, i m only going by memory here), they all share the same core units however. Diplomas mean nothing in ICT industry only good for getting into uni... unlike the A+, N+ etc which are very specialised and in depth

i think that should sum it up, don't quote me on it through

Non of which means the owner is a qualified tech, its only possible to get a job as one don't mean that one is, in fact tbh the diplomas don't give the skills needed for a fully blown tech anyways

As someone who has taken the Btec NatDip in networking... I can concur with this! Its a load of ***p, designed to just get you into the debt creator that is uni. should have thought something was up after half way through year 1 and the lecturers were talking about uni :/

thank you for necro bumping this thread, What a read lol. I have used this stuff in the past have to say over MX3 and AS5 it is better but the mess it leaves on the heat sink made me think not worth the clean up at the end.

Oh. My. God.

This reminds me of Computer Science 3 guy. Go Google it if you're unaware of what I mean - It's rather amusing xD

xD Love this thread. IT Diplomas mean buggger all. I have 4x A* and 1x A in IT diplomas, spent 50% of the time talking about health and safety, 40% of the time talking about business crap, 5% of the time learning about computers and 5% of the time actually asleep :D.

I love his attitude though... I've been walking since I was a baby yet I still have the ability to fall flat on my face if I hit a paving slab. We all make mistakes, deal with it.

Ok, so I've been ordering from overclockers since the first Athlon slot A chips were being overclocked and they only had a hand full of stock.
I look on the forums now and again as a guest if I'm faffing with something and need some info.

So... I decide to revisit my i7 3770K overclock as I believe it can do better (if it ain't broke, BREAK IT :D). After a few days I concluded that 4.7ghz and prime blend stable for 12 hours is good enough for me, however, 95c average across cores is not! I bumped into various de-lidding tutorials which further lead me to coollaboratory liquid pro. As I scanned through my google search results, my eyes quickly flicked down excitedly to "*EPIC THREAD*". I just HAD to create an account to post because I've not had a laugh like that in a long time. Such a classic "I have 12 diplomas in dog grooming, I couldn't have possibly done anything wrong!".

I so wish I'd have been on the receiving end when it was returned!

Priceless.... :D

I'm just getting over swine flu and this really did cheer me up!

Ive never noticed this thread before :D

So whats the shelf life of CLL when applied under the IHS or heatsink? I see they do a Cool Laboratory Ultra now as well which looks like its the same stuff?. What is best to use if delidding a CPU CLL,CLU or normal thermal paste?

Does anyone know what the base of the Alpenföhn K2 Mount Doom is made out off?

Liquid ultra works fine on the k2 base, you cant use it on anything aluminium. Nickel plated or copper bases will be fine. Been using it under my k2 for several months now, temps dropped a few c after a few days of application.
