I was just having a chat with an ex.. new girlfriends came up, and obviously, meeting of new girlfriends can be awkward, if drunk or something like that. But he said that if I were to hit her, he would hit me. Now, is that an acceptable action? Does it class as ''defence'', or are men capable of being defensive without doing that? It just seems over the top, or maybe im being old fashioned when i think men that hit women are... well, cowardly?

Is there any situation where you would deem it acceptable? It seems like views have changed, so im interested to see what other people would now do?

edit: i say girlfriend.. this came up over someone said ex is seeing, and was made clear he would take the same action if it simply involved friends, as well...

I think it's wrong to cause a woman pain, but restraining her from doing something stupid or hurting you is ok in my eyes, even if you have to cause them pain in the process.

I don't see why he would hit you in retaliation, that's a bit stupid.

zefan-
but actually hitting a woman? because this is what would said would be done, and it suprised me that any man would think like that. do you think theres a difference between defence and hitting, or can it all just be rolled into one?

You're asking if hitting a woman is okay? Well I think it's one of the most despicable things a man can do, so no.

well, thats what i thought the general current day view is.

but to be honest, current day largely includes chavs, too, and i dont know how high their morals lay... maybe its affecting what used to be decent people, too?

I'm surprised that you would even contemplate hitting her Gemma. To be honest, if he is an ex, it should be none of your concern who he is now with. If you still want to be mates with him, just grin and bear it, even if you dislike her.

However, him hitting you back if you did get physically violent with her, is morally wrong.

As the great comedian chris rock said,
" i would NEVER hit a woman, but i sure would shake the **** out of one"*

*not word for word, cant remember exact phrasing,
terms and conditions apply, failing to mantain repayments could mean loss of home.

Yeah of course, retaliative "hitting" would be ridiculous and achieve nothing.

However if I saw a girl swing at my partner I would probably do something to stop it, if that meant punching her then that's what I'd do.

but being a man anyway.. do you not think youre strong enough to defend her/yourself without hitting a woman?

Massively wrong to hit a women, unless you have absolutely no choice. There's some very hard psycho women out there, who like fighting.

i wasnt contemplating, this purely came up in 'conversation' by chance, and i was shocked at the reply. it seems very low that a man would ever think of doing that, given that 90% of men are strong enough to restrain someone else/another woman anyway. i dont want to be mates with him, and i realllly dont care about her.. it was just the response i was so bemused about!

I wouldn't hit a lady but I would hit a female if they hit me.

...wa?

sorry, is there a difference between lady/female? and if a woman hit you.. or say just slapped you.. would you really feel like you had to hit her back? when you are probably stronger than her anyway, not to mention all the moralities behind it?
