So 2 glorious draws and ten hag is staying? /chefs kiss

This is another one of those familiar situations where everyone can see there's no way back for the manager, but the ownership are failing to act.

They may have a meeting and decide to sack him tomorrow/Tuesday, but that doesn't seem particularly likely. The longer he stays, the worse this all looks, it's very much Woodward/Glazers territory. Worrying.

2 games to save his job, gets 2 draws with turgid football, INEOS should have had a statement ready to go saying thanks for the past 2 and a bit years Erik but no thanks, announce your new manager (probably potter) and go from there. Give the new guy 3 years, with a stipulation that he needs to have a playing style embedded by the end of the season. This continual eeking out of a few games every couple of months to save his job is pathetic, the standards at OT are on the floor these days.

United are a big enough club, paying big enough wages I don't see why they aren't offering 12 month contracts at this point. Certainly no need to offer the likes of Potter more than 12 months without huge performance clauses.

As an outsider, surely you need an inspirational manager, somebody fairly young...i.e. the next up&coming McKenna  or Postecoglou, not another seat on the merry-go-round for a Tuchel or Inzahgi or whoever else is sugegsted. That includes Southgate who's may sort the defence out but is as inspirational as a wet tissue

I think probably the biggest part of the reason he is still in a job is that there is no stand out successor out there, employed or not. I would expect most managers would jump at the chance of taking the job despite the fans on here calling it a poisoned chalice. Biggest club in England at the lowest and most vulnerable point they've been at in living memory. ETH has set a low bar where by any improvements by the new boss would be seen as success. Add to this huge wages and the fact that PSR rules don't apply to them makes it an attractive proposition imo.
Chop him now then get in a new fella before the premier league returns then they've got a set of fixtures out to end of November that they should be comfortably winning every one of.

Because a contract is a two way agreement usually. You can probably get someone on a 12 month contract but then you have various issues.

  • They will probably want more money as there would be no chance of severance and no job security so you would have to cover their potential lost earnings between this job and their next one.
  • Players would know the manager is only there for a year probably and that you have little faith in them so its almost a self fulfilling prophecy that they would fail.
  • If the manager does do well they have you over a barrel and would probably take you to the cleaners (and want a longer contract)
  • If they have other offers of longer contracts would they take those?
Its a nice idea but as with most things that sound like good ideas, there is a good reason they aren't done.

Man Utd have had a succession of managers post Ferguson. Not one of them has had their reputation enhanced by the job.

To think any top tier coach/manager would want the job at this stage is naïve in my opinion.

Managing a prestigious club with one of the biggest fan bases in the world. Plus lots of money.

Coupled with the fact that the current manager is utter tripe so you can't really do worse.

Basically I'm not so sure re your point. There is a huge opportunity to be had. And as above, almost no lose re the status as it is.

Look ETH is obviously a decent sort. And there is so many things wrong with United just now.

But ETH is not helping anyone just now. Needs to go.

Yeah, I have no ill feelings towards the guy. Just not the right guy and won't be able to last long enough to be the right guy even if other things get better. This season was his last roll of the dice and currently its snake eyes.

It wouldn't surprise if ETH does well at another club. The question remains, who will do well at MUFC when he leaves? The last decade suggests not many people will, especially with the duds we've bought.

Then again, what should we class as doing well? Top 6? Top 4? It's now a team of old, castoffs or inexperienced.

I'm starting to have some ill feeling towards him. He serves up the most turgid football imaginable after buying all his favourite players and then tries to somehow explain it away with stupid anecdotes that don't make any sense.

All that aside though, his position is completely untenable, and to be honest it has been since early last season. If Ashworth can't look at the situation and see it's not remotely recoverable, perhaps his powers have been greatly exaggerated...

Talk of Tuchel and Thomas Frank. I'd actually be happy to give Frank a shot - I like him. Tuchel is the generic safer option though, for however long he lasts... I bet that's where they are looking. Or Potter.

Bit harsh on Inzaghi. He had 5 years at Lazio, did very well, got the Inter job, has done very well, and a move to the PL or La Liga seems an obvious next step. Unfortunately for United, Inter are currently far more attractive than them!

I would like to see Tuchel personally.

No nonsense sort of manager (for a while at least).

In any case figure it will be RvP for a couple of months.

And then someone who can try to sort this mess out.

Rashford seems to have a bit of form now. And I already credit that to RvP.

We'll see I guess.
