My biggest fear is that Amorims system seems to require a very high work rate and technical/tactical awareness. I think we will see quite quickly whether he is going to sink or swim. Fingers crossed it a fun ride regardless.
Seems a valid concern given how Ole, Rangnick and EtH all identified workrate and co-ordinated pressing has been well short of almost any other team they come up against.
I've seen gradual improvement in the application of some players.
Dalot, Garnacho, Amad, Bruno all consistently graft and put in defensive efforts. They seem to have the stamina and application but I think they lack physicality at times.
Rashford, Hojlund, Antony, Mainoo, Eriksen and at times Casemiro do not consistently apply the required effort or play with discipline. We do not have a powerful midfield. Ugarte looks like he can provide some defensive steel but not box2box. I suspect that fits if Mainoo is to be the pivot.

Onana

Yoro - De Ligt - Martinez (Shaw)

Dalot - Ugarte- Mainoo - Garnacho

Fernandes (Mount)
Hojlund (Zirkzee) - Rashford (Diallo)

I'm looking forward to seeing what he tries and how the player respond. I hope he also moves on Eriksen, Lindelof, Maguire, and Antony over the next two windows.

Will a new manager fix Man U? Not so sure they’re never given more than 3 seasons. Did SALF get about 5/6 before he started having success?

You don’t get 5 years now.

The issue is he needs to get rid of the deadwood, the squad is awful and over paid. They’re going to need to take huge kick in the balls to get rid of loads of these players. They’d need to get them out on loan and just take the hit as theres no way they’re able to sell them.

It’s going to take years as a lot of them will want to and rightly so run their contracts down.

There are some good players though- garnacho, de ligt, rashers, Bruno- should be a good spine for future additions.

That’s kind of the point though, they need an entire overall. Thats still >10 players they need to get around them.

I’d also argue that Rashford isn’t actually that good. He’s had 1 good season. His floor is also really low, he can easily put in a load of 3 or 4 out of 10 games in a row and when was the last time he had a 8 or 9 performance? They need a load of players who just are solid and get you that 6/7 every single week, while still having the ability to shine when others around them do drop a bit of form.

Um, what? One good season? Think you need to look at his history again.

His break through season was excellent. He had a good season 3 or 4 years ago when he hit his best scoring followed by a few a couple of really poor ones, continuing into this current season.

He’s been dropped from England and as far as I can tell a lot of fans including on here would rather see him dropped. Maybe that’s clouded my judgement. I recall him being decent under Ole after Jose was sacked but the whole place was buzzing after that event!

This is the problem. With financial fair play rules it is going to be very hard for Man Utd to offload players and buy better replacements.

Honestly if the club wants to succeed in the long term they need to set expectations and work towards an aim of a competitive side in 4-5 years time.

Yes and no, they can do shares swaps etc

Theres loads of ways they can do it and still be within it. It’ll be interesting to see the out come of these interest free loans, whether they stick to actually allowing them or pretend there is points on the it for PSR purposes. Therefore they could increase funds that way. Theres also a massive debt on the club, they pay that off there isn’t any interest payments on that - that’s currently running at £1bn over the last 20 years of glazers ownership. In theory that could be put into the club as well.

It’s Man Utd they can pull pot noodle partners and toilet roll holders out of the blue to get some funds.

Hope this Ruben is strict he's got to be with these players. First thing I would do is strip Bruno of captain. Such a mardy player never seen him try and lift the players or give any motivation
Issue we face is that this squad is a devoid of good leadership from top to bottom. I know this is a drum that is banged quite hard but good leadership, mentality and culture start at the very top. The Glazers let the best in class mentallity of yesteryear steadily go down the drain without us noticing it. It will take quite some time for Ineos to sort this mess out.

On Bruno, my view is that under normal circumstances he would be part of the leadership group within the team. Not so sure he is at the same level as previous captains, but again look at the last time we won the champions league, we had captains in pretty much every single position on the pitch, any of the players could have worn the armband. Today, there are propbably one or two players who a young player breaking into the team would look upto.

The players are in no position to be making requests or demands. I don't have an issue with him being kept on but if Amorim doesn't want him there, that has to be the decision.

I'm right in thinking that Amorim is bringing his own staff with him? If so then it's hard to see RvN staying long term. Amorim will have his own assistant(s) that he knows and trusts and I can't see him having RvN in a more prominent position than them. It might have been different had he been just another coach but having previously been a first team manager himself and brought to the club as assistant manager, I can't see him being happy just making up the numbers on the coaching staff/a token gesture appointment.

I think two of the staff he's bringing are his assistants, so they'd be assistant manager(s). At best RvN would be able to stay as an attacking coach, but I don't see him wanting that. I think he's got the profile to go for a manager role somewhere.

My feeling is that we should be avoiding keeping anyone out of sentimentality, the ex-player approach to things hasn't worked at all. They need to rip everything up and effectively start again.

There's a balance to be had as they'll need to fully back Amorim and build his team, but it needs to fit the long term profile of the club as well - so we don't end up with a load of ex Sporting players... two or three is fine I guess.
