To sack or not to sack

I assume they wanted to give ETH another shot, but had Amorim as a contingency plan, as any sensible business would...

They dropped a huge clanger off the back of that FA Cup final though.

Has there been any comment from ETH since his sacking? I've not seen or heard anything from him which seems a bit strange. Usually there's some sort of statement, even if it's only a token gesture 'I wish the club all the best....'.

RvN just said he's spoken to him and he's "hurt" but that's about it.

Not just cup but they also sanctioned what £200m spend knowing that they had no faith in the manager? That's madness. Like I said before if they were giving him a chance they needed to allow him to use more than 60% of the players they just bought.

Souness (lol) called out Ineos saying they're clueless. Hard to disagree, to some extent anyway. Not sure why Ineos get so much positive press (do they own any media outlets?).

I don't think they're getting much positive press at all? They've been roundly vilified for sacking a quarter the Man Utd staff and effectively sacking Sir Alex... what they have done is appointed the likes of Dan Ashworth who is highly regarded within the game, something the Glazers failed to do.

It's still early days, appointing their own manager is a big moment.

INEOS are running it fine. Just like any other big business. Stripping the staff like they have is a good thing, (bad for the staff obviously) as it reduces wages, needless positions rid of, paying Fergie £m a year to watch Utd play and show his face for PR, is not needed, as great as the man was, it something a big company doesn't need. Planning Amorim in the summer as a Plan B which is now active. Whos to say some of the summer signings are not biased towards Amorims style of play and done with that in mind.

They don't get positive press. They have just been in the job for a very short amount of time and right when the manager is underperforming. Very little of what they have done has been "clueless".

EtH had insane injury issues last season and won a cup. Without either of those things he would have been gone, all things being equal. Honestly, there is nothing to suggest that he would have started the season so poorly. His first season wasn't this bad and he has added plenty of players since they and the squad was largely fit. So again, no reason to think things would be awful. They were giving him another year. And no, I don't think the transfers were all at his behest.

So why not sack him in the summer then? Save at least £8m on ETH payoff and get new manager in early.

I guess it's all easy in hindsight but hopefully they've learned something from the "manager review" process because chances are they're going to need to perform the same review every 18 months.

Edit - I misread what you said, I see that you've answered the first paragraph already, regarding why they kept him.

Ugarte yeah, Yoro unsure, Zirkzee surely not? The other two, not sure.

new manager same old same old
But in the same regard, it's going to have to be same old same old for some time, no quick fixes(unless we sack off Rashford, Antony etc, which won't), just need to get lucky somehow. As fez said a few posts back, sometimes things just click and you need to keep trying to get to that place, hopefully this new structure will get there eventually.

I guess my last few posts are more focused on not getting carried away that Ineos are the answer. Even Ashworth etc will make mistakes.

Yeah fair point re: press that was probably not a well educated statement given that I don't follow the press updates much.

Statement from the man himself.

"Let me start by thanking you," a statement read via his management Sports Entertainment Group. "Thank you for always being there for the club. Whether it was at a game far away or a tough match at Old Trafford, your support has been unshakeable.
"The atmosphere at Old Trafford has always been electrifying, thanks to you. I felt it many times. Also in away games, it gave the team and me an incredible feeling to hear the United chants taking over the opponents' stadiums, whether the game was in England, Europe or during the summer tours.

"I always enjoyed meeting Manchester United fans throughout the world. Walking the streets and being able to chat with fans in England, Europe, Asia, Australia, the USA - you inspired me and radiated a strong sense of unity. That's what makes United supporters so special.

"I want to thank you for giving me this feeling and for your support. I also want to thank the staff in every department of the club for their unwavering support in good times and bad.

"We won two trophies - achievements that I will cherish for the rest of my life. Of course, my dream was to bring more trophies to the cabinet. Unfortunately, that dream has come to an end. I wish all Manchester United fans nothing but success, trophies and glory. Your support and the warmth I received from everyone at the club helped me feel at home.

"Thank you for this chapter in my life
