Essential Android Apps

I have a question about googlecheckout.

I've purchased my first app a while ago using googlecheckout, and then purchased my second this weekend only to notice that all i had to do was click buy. At no point was i asked for a password or any kind of security check. I'm really not at all comfortable with this, what if my phone goes missing or is stolen?

I had a look around the googlecheckout site to see if there were any settings but I couldn't find anything. Can anyone help?

They assume you have a screen lock and password on your phone... in which case there is no issue.

Do you know how secure the screenlock is?

Reason why I ask is that I have similar concerns to "Grrrrr" regarding Google Checkout and also Google Mail. If somebody was to steal my phone and somehow get passed the screen lock they could potentially buy what they want using Google Checkout and also have access to all of my emails.
I'd definitely feel safer if they both asked for my password before allowing access.

When you lose your phone, change your Google password.

I agree it would be nice to have an option to enter it for each purchase though.

I'd be happy even if it just allowed us to log out of the accounts. I don't like the fact that the Google Mail app is constantly displaying all of my several thousand emails with no way of logging out. I think I'll be uninstalling it until they hopefully make some changes.

Your phone is your personal device and not a public computer. It is like saying I should keep my home PC password locked at all times in case someone breaks in and reads all my emails.

There are various programs out there that allow you to remotely lock or wipe your phone if it is lost or stolen. If you do lose it, then just get to a computer and change your password.

I use ES Security which will lock your phone until the password is put in. You just need to borrow someone else's phone to send the special command by SMS to lock your phone. Its also set to put a message with my contact phone number (landline) oon the screen for ppl that find the phone

I then use Prey to locate my phone....

does anyone know if there's an app or script that I can run on my Desire which will periodically try to backup the contents of my DCIM folder to a network share, when the phone is connected to a wLAN?

I installed LauncherPro on to my Pulse yesterday and wow! I can hardly believe how much faster and more responsive it is compared to the stock home screen! Wish I installed it months ago.

Hmm, I take back what I said before.

Although the home screen scrolling is much smoother, it seems to be taking much longer to open screens such as contacts, or messages. Returning to the home screen after been in an application seems to take longer as well :(

Hey, my Desire's battery life is frankly not great, which is the best app to help me manage this? Don't want to be charging it up every day or so!

I'd like to know this too. I unplug the phone around 9 or 10am, it's usually asking to be charged by around 7pm or so! (This is a galaxy s though, but the same process should apply.)

It doesn't matter what you do, you'll always have to charge it every day or so. One thing is to switch off autoupdating or synching if you can live without it. I noticed battery life suffered when I had Feedr [news reader app] set to update every hour.
